NEW - BLACK Samco Hose set (from the 2013 group buy)

Postby lotos » Sat 16.09.2023, 23:07

I bought the Samco complete hose set back in 2013 (with jubilee clips) from the LEC group buy, it was around $550 I think. Asking $275 USD including shipping to continental US.

Never touched, never used, never left the boxes. I believe I did hear something about some of the hoses being wrong or having defect issues, I don't recall the details and I assume no responsibility, I honestly don't know what that was about but I have a vague memory of some issue with one of the hoses or something like that.

See the pics, you get everything shown.

If you pay shipping, total is $250USD.

I'll take Paypal (friends and family), Zelle, or Venmo.

Thanks! Happy to see these go to an Elan owner.

Well, I am assuming that these are on their way to Philadelphia before the UK even gets a chance to wake up.....

...... but if not, then I'd like to grab them, please, and can even supply a US address to send them to.

(Yes, I am aware that the Fed hoses are not exactly the same as the UK/EU ones)

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

This is something I was a bit worried about. I am assuming that even though this is the case there are no “big” issues with getting it all to fit at the end of the day?

Nope - it's a right bloody nightmare.... you'd be far, far better off not bothering and getting the right ones......

..... then I could have them

Okay, I'll be serious, all the 'engine' hoses are the same, it is 'only' the big hoses that go to the radiator (top and bottom) that are listed in the parts manual as being different....

.... Looking at page 46.01A, items 20 & 22 show a different length of straight hose at the top and bottom 'leg' of the hose..... Now, Samco changed the design of the hoses somewhere along the line to have a longer part on both ends, and depending if it was going on a car with or without SIR and/or AC, you just trimmed it to match the one that came off (this is what I fitted to my project a couple of months ago, and it was simple to do and match it up).

I know that the angles of the radiator on the SIR cars is different (although Lotus list the same radiator for both), and "assume" that the Fed car needs a longer bottom hose to reach the engine, so it "should" be a matter of cutting down the hose to fit a UK setup..... far better than having to extend it an inch or 2..... I can't see it being hard to do!

I really appreciate the quick run down, I found the original 2013 group buy thread and perused it just enough to convince myself to pull the trigger on these and worry about any issues later.

Feel free to post any of those parts during night time in the UK as well ;)

I see old-style SAMCO induction pipes. Sorry to bring the bad news but:
Whoever is intending to use them, please read this first if you don't want to risk a new intercooler and perhaps even a Turbo!:

Henk-Jan,

Excellent point. Thank you.

I was aware of it, but didn't think to mention it as I would have just chucked the offending parts in the bin!

(I was only after the water pipes, but I should have remembered that not everyone would be aware of the issue with this generation of boost pipe).

Hi HJ,

Thank you for bringing this to my attention! I went back and read the thread a little more carefully this time. If I am correct, the flexible orange/yellow pipe with the black ends in the top box is the only piece effected? Fortunately, that might be the only part of my current cooling system still salvageable

looks like you were able to secure a replacement for some of those in NL who had bought the afflicted ones so good on you for your persistence!

Just to say it was the induction hoses that were the problem, NOT the cooling hoses.
Any Samco cooling hoses will not give you any problems. But I would recommend you use their jubilee clips as tightening silicon hoses cam be a bit problematic if not done correctly.

Yup, the flexible hose was the problem (a disaster) It's in the top picture
It took more then a year to get it solved. It is not part of the coolant system, but of the (air) induction system
There is nothing wrong with the OEM induction hose (between Turbo and air filter housing).
Let me know if you need a spare.

The rest of the Samco hoses are highly recommended, as are the clamps.
