M100 Door Seals - group buy

Postby JamieLM100 » Thu 16.01.2025, 08:58

MAIN DOOR SEALS

I’ve spent well over a year on this, and I’m finally in a position to move things ahead in early 2025.

Before anyone asks, I’m not the Jamie that makes the other Lotus seals I’ve seen people using.

Summary so far:

The good news is I’ve sourced OEM technical drawings, and a manufacturer that can make the door seals to original spec. I am looking primarily at the S2, however the yet to confirm the differences between that and the S1.

The bad news is this involves new tooling, which isn’t cheap, however I’m not in this to make a profit but just to cover costs and a minimum production run.

I need to finalise pricing once I visit the factory for final measurements, unfortunately my car has to get through an MOT and the timeframe will be March for that.

Before I take this further I need to gauge interest.

So - those of you interested please do not message me here but send me an email to:

M100doorseals@gmail.com

Please include your name, where you are based, and your car model (S1/S2).

I’m happy to ship at your expense once these are completed, so wherever you are based doesn’t matter but you will be responsible for covering shipping and your local taxes. I know there is strong interest outside of the UK where I’m based.

Finally, please be patient, I have a busy day job and a family, this project isn’t top of the list for the company I have been dealing with, however I will be providing updates and prices in due course.

I’ve spoken to admin about posting here, I have also posted on the M100 owners and enthusiasts FaceBook page, so hopefully not breaking any rules.

Thanks all and fingers crossed we can get this done!

I've only made a very limited amount of these and can tell you they are very difficult to get right, combined with the fact that they rub over other seals as the door
opens and closes then it is going to need something special that won't deteriorate due to the rubbing, that's the main reason they are all split, it was a poor design
from day one. That whole area at the bottom of the falling pillar seal really needs something totally different, a new design altogether and something that actually works
properly, if you look at modern convertibles in that area it's apparent how badly designed Lotus made it.

The other thing to remember is that there are three different versions of the door surround seal and there isn't really any defined dates of when they were used
other than late S2's that all have the same design (as far as I've seen anyway).

It's a great project and would benefit a good few owners provided the cost of them is reasonable, but to get them spot on it's essential that the supplier has the different
cars in their possesion as templates to work with and get them absolutely accurate for the different versions.

I wish you luck.
