The Black Beastie

Postby Rambo » Tue 27.08.2024, 11:09

Hello everyone. I have some very sad news. I have just heard from Minda, Scott's wife. Scott passed away last night. Apparently he had a massive heart attack.

Many of you will remember Scott and his beloved Black Beastie (now with Steven in Dunfermline) from the very early days of LEC, notably the very wet camping w/e up in the Lakes, the Scottish convoys down to Donington and, latterly, the trips to Silverstone Classics weekends.

He will be sadly missed by me, and also his many other LEC friends.

Completely unexpected to see this post today.

Words can never convey the feelings of loss.

RIP Scott J, and thoughts to Minda at this time.

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

Yes, his last WhatsApp message to me was only yesterday at 10:20, before I left Silverstone bound for home.

I'd sent him a photo of Silverstone with clear blue skies and we joked about the crap weather we'd had at the weekend and he laughed. A pity he missed it as it was good, despite the winds and the rain. The Ayrton Senna JPS liveried Lotus F1 car thrashing around the track would have indeed been a good send off

I’m truly saddened and sorry to hear this and offer my sincere condolences to Minda and the rest of Scott’s family and friends.

Scott was excellent company on the trips we did to Le Mans around 06/07, the sight of him in his Pith Helmet fully embracing the Le Mans vibe is etched in my memory as is his mate Julian, aka ‘Volvoman’ and his brother (sadly forgotten his name, sorry).

My brother, on those trips as well, also sends his condolences.

Rest in peace Scott, good to have known you.

Hi Nige - long time no see/no hear. Sy's funeral I think? Ironically !

I will pass your kind words, and others kind words, on to Minda.

Shocked and saddened by this news. First met him in 2004, along with the rest of the original Clan McElan (Rambo, BigErch and Stevo). Last saw him on 1st June this year at the Milngavie classic car show. Proper Lotus geek and all round great guy. He will be missed.

Hi Alan. Yes, Scott told me he'd bumped into you and your son at Milngavie and that you had (eventually) got your yellow Esprit back from SMC.

He was hoping to be at the Salon Privé event at Blenheim Palace this w/e with his Elise and the Lotus Drivers Club. I still find it hard to believe as he was a fit and healthy cyclist and London marathon runner with Lotus blood in his veins
