Running hot

Postby scottpegler » Sun 05.10.2008, 16:51

I've noticed, in the past few drives, when I return she seems very hot despite the temp gauge only at 1/4. I replaced the thermostat, and in doing so discovered that, though the old one did not completely seat in the closed position, it did still open when heated - I replaced it anyway. Unfortunately, this has not remedied the "hot" running. In the past, even on a fairly hot day, the temp gauge rarely indicated much over an 1/8. Any advice for the next step? Thanks.

Don't know what to tell you, since it sounds like it's working like it's supposed to. You'll find that everybody's car normally runs right at about 1/4 on the temp guage, and will get up to about 3/4 before the fans kick in (unless they installed a lower temp switch like I have, and the fans kick in at just over 1/2) to cool it back down. Nothing you've described sounds the least bit out of the norm.

If your old themostat wasn't quite closing all the way, then it may have been running a little cooler than normal at first, since it was allowing circulation before reaching normal operating temperature.
