Samco cooling hose kit

Postby lotusnut » Fri 30.04.2021, 16:07

Has anybody come up against a problem with the Samco hose from the heater valve to the thermostat housing and auxiliary cooling pump. I have a set for my SE but the hose in the kit is in 2 pieces and too short and permanently rubs on the EGR pipe. The original hose is in 1 piece and the thermostat housing part is 35mm longer. Samco say they made the hoses to the pattern supplied.
Does anybody know if this hose was changed in production and when, maybe start of S2 production?

Yes. I have had two sets and the hose is too short. Both times I have been forced to cut the hose and add a joining piece. The hoses as supplied CAN be made to fit but too much tension is applied to my way of thinking

I have always been confused by these hoses. The idea that the S2 needs different hoses to the SE is complete nonsense IMHO. The things the hoses join to are identical and in the same place. Unless someone knows differently

ETA More clearance / length on the longest stretch (!) of hose would be nice when Aircon is installed... but it wouldn't be a problem on a car that hasn't got Aircon if it was longer.

My set on the S2 with aircon was a perfect fit?
Straight from the box!

I fitted 4 sets in total i believe, SE and S2 but never a hose on the heatervalve that was too short!
The hose to the radiator however was a different story. It has been a while sins mu Samco groupbuy debacle, but wasn’t this corrected in the end by samco?

If it helps, the Volvo heatervalve has longer plastic tubes then the OEM one.

Sorry. My mistake ~ it was the hose to the bottom rad connection that was too short.

Yup, THAT i recognise :-D
But this was better handled by Samco than the induction hose thingey
So should not be a problem anymore.

The problem is not the length on the heater valve but on to the thermostat housing, it's 35mm shorter than the original which means when fitted the hose is hard up against the EGR pipe.
On my car the original is all 1 piece, the Samco being 2 piece. Also my original bottom radiator hose to auxiliary pump and expansion tank is in 3 parts, whereas the Samco is all one piece which fits fine and does away with the bent aluminium pipe between the bottom hose and auxiliary pump.

Pictures please!
I cannot believe SAMCO changed the design of the hose kit without any need for it (= extra cost!)

Perhaps something else is wrong?
The design includes a pipe to connect 2 sections that in the OEM design is one section indeed, but it should fit like a charm!

Hi folks, I’ve just finished stripping all the old hoses out of my S2 and my Samco bottom hose is slightly longer than the original. The top hose is almost millimetre perfect and all the others appear to be identical. Do you need any measurements while I have them all on the bench?

How much is 'slightly' longer, is that the main hose or the one to the aux. cooling pump?

Samcop have now modifies the tooling, and are making the hose the same as my original. Should be with me this week.

No, the hose from the engine to the bottom radiator fixing. 25-30mm longer I’d estimate (and can measure later if you need to know precisely). I don’t see it as any issue though, the hoses are beautifully made and will be a welcome replacement for some dodgy 25 yr old OEM ones.

I agree they are well made, my problem one is from the thermostat housing, Samco have made and despatched a new one. Fedex tracking says it will be delivered by 18:00 today, now 19:20 and still not arrived. Typical delivery company, can't be relied on.

Where I live, delivery companies are very reliable. When given a 1 hour slot I would say that 95% of the delivery companies get it spot on. The other 5% deliver either before the allotted time or after, in which case I am given a text update

I think that's an excellent service but, dependent on where you live, congestion, lowering of and temporary speed limits, road works, (not very) smart motorways etc... all need to be factored in

Everything takes longer these days despite having faster cars. As an example, my normal sub 6 hour drive to Castle Combe took nearly 7.5 hours. Reasons being it was a Friday before the bank holiday w/e, the clowns on the motorways who had forgotten how to drive post lockdown, ludicrous "smart" motorway restrictions causing unnecessary delays

Back on topic though, good luck with that remaining Samco hose. They are an excellent product and I've had 3 sets fitted with absolutely no issues
