Heater not working

Have replaced radiator, and filled with new coolant. Have opened heater to hot setting, and bled radiator, but heater still not getting warm. Fans come on at 3/4 mark, so assuming thermostat is ok, but do I need to replace heater valve ?
Have a new metal one from previous Group Buy, but no arrow on it, so do I just fit inline with round body to right of pipes ?

did you bleed the system with the screw under the passenger side's headlamp pod ?

Yes, have fitted a new Coolex radiator with a 17mm screw for bleeding system.

did you open the heater to the hot setting before emptying the system from coolant ?
and did it make the whoosh noise ? (while the engine was running and making enough vaccuum to open the valve)
after topping up ?

im just remembering the system is vacuum operated, so, just making sure there was vacuum when you try to bleed the coolant around
if there's a vacuum leak somehwrere, the dial can point anywhere, if theres not enough vacuum to keep the valve open to circulate the coolant and let the air out

No I didn't fully open the heater before draining the coolant. I only opened the heater fully after replacing the coolant, and starting the engine.
What should I do now ?

This is an awkward one. I had same problem when I fitted new hoses and heater valve. You get an air lock in the heater.

Possible solution, assuming everything is correctly fitted, put car on a steep slope pointing uphill. This should raise the bleed screw above the heater. Run engine with heater valve open and then open bleed screw. Hopefully airlock will rise to top and go.

I think I also pressure fed water through the heater matrix before reconnecting full hoses.

Problem seems to have sorted itself, after driving the car a few times. Heater is now working ok, and have topped up the coolant to correct level. Airlock in heater seems to dissipated through the system by itself.
