water pump

Postby JoPaS » Mon 15.05.2006, 20:07

Hello 4 all!

I have some problems to solve with my elan, but here are two that I wan't to solve first.

- 1st, the water pump. I've heard that ther's a replace part for the lotus original one. i've seen the common replacements area and i can´t decine which one to buy!
- 2nd, the heater valve. I want to buy one to, cause mine was leaking, so now i don´t have the heater.

I would like to buy these 2 pieces but i'm thinking of changing the water hoses for Stainless Steel Braided Lines (i dont know if this is the accurate name, I copied it from http://www.lotuselancentral.com/upgrade/ssbrakelines.htm .
something like this:

So this is the real thing: I would like to buy those 2 parts but if possible i wold like them to fit this tipe of hoses!

Are these hoses better than the regular ones?
Is it a good modification or not so much?

Thank you all

Hello Jo,

There is an alternative waterpump available in the USA, but I'm not sure where. Someone else will have to help there.

As for the stainless steel hoses, in the picture you have water hoses, and the URL you mention brake lines which are obviously for the braking system. I think you are looking for stainless water hoses for the cooling system from what you say.

I have two points on this, the first being that the ones in the picture are almost certainly slide on covers that go over the original hoses to make them look pretty. My second point would be that it would end up very expensive to have proper braided hoses (I think they are known as 'aeroquip' hoses and generally used for the hot oil systems on racing cars. The alternative might be to have a coloured set made for the car as in this thread here:

Hello Candles,

Yes I was talking about the stainless water hoses for the cooling system.
I saw them on a racing car too, they loked prety nice! :)
I had some problems with my standard hoses, they leaked. I think due to the long periods of time that the car is stoped due to bad weather! 'cause here in Portugal during Summer it's prety sunny, but on the Winter, it rains a lot, so the car has to stay in the garage. I think the stainless steel would solve the problem and would look nice!

But I'm sti looking for those other parts..

Thank you,
(sorry for my english mistakes!)
