Heater fan failing

While driving home last night with the top down, I hit the usual summer fog bank in San Francisco. As usual, the air temp drops about 20 degrees instantly. Normally no problem. Just fire up the heater and forget it. After a few minutes, there is a deep droning noise seeming to come from the front of the car. Assuming the worst, I pop the car out of gear, rev the engine, no change. Quick scan of the gauges, fine. Turn off the heater fan, problem solved.

Anyone have experience servicing or replacing a heater fan?

rhm...no, but it's fairly easy to get it out if thats any help.

Where is the fan? Behind the console? And what is meant by "fairly easy to get out"? Thanks.

Lastly, an Elan in Roskilde, huh? Yeah, I would imagine keeping the heater fun functioning would be important there too. Looks silver. Beautiful.

It's just behind the glovebox. Take that one out and you can (almost) see what you are surpose to do. Easiest way though is to get on your back, stik your head down in the foodwell, a good flashlight, some tools, and it should be out in minutes. (And the backpain is normally gone within a week.)
