I must say that the programmes that have been aired on TV reflecting individuals involvement in WW1 have been extremely moving.

I would also like to say how impressed with the decorum and quantity of the general public I am.....
the 'crowds' seem to have been growing over the past few years and the turn out this year was most impressive.......
I think that now that its been introduced into school more and more parents and children are becoming more aware of just what happened and what it means..

I went with my youngest (Scout) and my father (who happened to be down visiting) to Church on Sunday and a couple of Scouts read extracts from a book a local woman had put together. There were personal letters from her father and Uncles and extracts from the local newspaper. Of her grandparents' four sons, three were killed within 6 months; this in a small village of a few dozen inhabitants. It really brought it home to all of us in a way that we'd never experienced before.

I have every admiration for anyone who puts their neck on the line for your Country - it's a shame you don't get the level of recognition or respect throughout the whole year that you deserve.

I played last post at the menheim gate, ypres in 2000....
I have 2 great uncles listed on the gate as they were never found.......
one of the most moving moments of my life...well day...!!!

never forgotten.....
I also took a touristy type trip (away from the 'lads') up vimmy ridge amongst other things....but a day up vimmy ridge in november in the snow...and the rest of the stuff we saw...
theres nothing to say..........just deep deep thoughts......

tho....discovery channel and the other have done a bang up job trying to get the point over....

Then, back to this pub in Bromsgrove where 'veterans' don't pay for drinks on Remembrance Sunday... not that anyone was taking the mickey, of course.

I used to go with a party from our school to the WW1 battlefields. A very humbling and moving time which enabled the kids to really appreciate what the war was like. I know that a lot of schools go over with groups but it should be a compulsory part of the curriculum - not just to learn about it in a classroom but to actually go. Pity we never seem to learn though
