Not only S3 (?) but S1 and "engines ran out to end S2 build". Better research would add more credance to the article.
Agreed - a woolly and poorly researched article which does nothing more than churn out the well-rehearsed set-pieces. Fortunately, the chapter on the S1 M100 Elan in my forthcoming book, '45+ Years Without John DeLorean - and a little more with', tells in detail - for the first time ever - how the Elan was conceived by Lotus's Colin Spooner; styled by Peter Stevens, Simon Cox and Julian Thomson; engineered and developed under a talented team led by Ian Doble with administrative support from Andrew Walmsley; its systems and components were sourced by Nick Sutton; and the roadster was taken into production just-in-time by the long-serving Morris Dowton. The key role of the product coordination committee I led part-time for twelve months is explained. How its weekly meetings tackled the internal and external politics, in-fighting, and the shortfalls in management pre-planning, with which it had to contend, is spelled out in detail. The humour, hard work and talent that went into meeting parent company General Motors' 'last chance saloon' deadline are highlighted. The story spells out the reasons why the project's key participants and their teams can be proud of using Lotus's first-ever realistic project budget to create its best-ever designed, engineered, developed, sourced, tooled and manufactured road car. Follow Facebook: 45+ Years Without John DeLorean for updates on progress towards publication.
