owners, moderators and members
I dont know if this subject has been approached before but I keep getting asked if I'm a member of a club......and I say yes the LEC......
I was a CL member but to be honest a crappy rag once every quarter wasnt good enough......so I quit my membership......
I just wondered if the LEC had 'membership cards' or the such like to keep the people who give discounts on lotus stuff happy.....
the favourite I get is with the insurance...they always ask if your a member of a club........

Subscription needs administration.
Administration means business.
Business means money.

How much discount do you get? May be worth the CL fee just for the discount.

If places continue to offer discounts for membership of LEC, then just keep it up, but as Sy said, the admin around memberships and subs would not be worth it. The admin costs for maintaining it spread amongst the few that would be willing to pay for it would make it a not very economicall proposition, especially if the sole aim was a discount that isn't worth the CL membership.

Also, it would seem that LEC, through various members, has a good relationship with CL, and any attempt to set up in competition would most likely badly damage or end it.

i brought the subject of some sort of id a few years back and that was how the LEC sticker was born. You'll be pleased to know that after Donny 2005 the Durex machine in the East Mids holiday inn express gent toilets is now a fully fledge member - courtesy of Stef :roll:

I know what you mean.
but the thing the clubs do with the 'discounts' have nowt to do with the 'clubs' money.........
I'm not sure how it works really........
I dont generally want a crappy mag hence my reluctance to give the new CL owners the cash........at least GA had it as his pension.......amongst other club mags that he had the rights to..........
I know that subscriptions help the 'club'........but as a group dont we still have the same bargining powers?.........
I'll invent something and see what they say and if it works I'll post it up here and see what people think......what do you reckon????

I beleive the point was... can we have some kind of printable membership badge to say someones a member of the LEC forum. Which I beleive can be established using some jiggery pokery, so that anyone joining is able to print a membership card.

This wouldnt involve anything more of the admins or any passing around of money.

I am 0598 on the list in date order and joined 30.April.04
so what about
year - number - month- date
so
04-0598-0430

right so get an LEC sticker scan the image (or better still i can send you the image file) and dtp a membership card, hey presto instant discount.

In the past i've just given the site address to prove that i am a member of LEC but frankly i have rarely been asked to provide proof. its a good idea but at the end of the day someone has to adminster the system which means someones free time free gratis.

Obviously needs tarting up and a nice looking membership card with decent text positioning if people like the idea... My programming skills dont really cover the next step which would create it from your member details in the database, but if that would be prefferable to 'trusting' people that have the manuals section password then I can try and work it out.

I like this idea, especially as a LEC card could replace the Club Lotus and Lotus Ltd ones in my wallet as the exclusivity of LEC is so much more than just signing up and paying the money!

Sounds like the database should be combined with the security sticker idea, but as a database analyst I'd say we need to identify the cars and the owners separately, as we may sell cars, but remain members!

Just a thought, can't wait to see the enxt take on a card...

Ok...

Liz has offered to make the membership cards upon PM'd request (woah not yet, we need to make some decisions first!). This will mean that the authenticity of the cards can be verified.

What we need to decide on is what text we want placed on the cards.

My suggestion is:
Real Name
Forum Name
Join Date

Once decided upon Liz will make up a proof for us to see (and it will look a lot nicer than the thing I knocked up).

It will be down to individuals to print/laminate their own.

also everyone has a number already.....a number relative to the date they joined (if you do it in date order....(I looked for me and I'm 598)
what about adding car details???......
year, colour, reg???.....
that way you might be able to incorporate these cards/info with the window etching/car data base that was being discussed???

Some people are lucky enough to own more than one elan... and some like WillB change elans more frequently than I do underwear

I think a join date and forum username would be 'unique' enough, but we could add a member number. Adding real name will mean that those requesting to see a membership will see some instant validity, if your names John and the card says "billybob69" they might not be so happy to give a discount.

Hi,

Hello to all,

We are new here, having bought our first Elan some 3 weeks ago.

I just tried to join the manuals section and got an error.

I then tried to use the contact section to querie it and got the same error?

I do a lot of graphic design work and wanted to look at the logo you speak about in this thread to see if I could help but, as stated above could'nt get to it.

Anyone got any idea what I am doing wrong, or should I just try later?
