Last night I'm sure the forum was showing current time ie British Summer Time (BST) Now It appears to be showing Pacific time. Is there a facility for showing BST ? Or GMT when the clocks change next month

Mine transferred across to UTC+1 OK but I see there is an automatic BST option now which seems to work.

Interesting - it started OK then changed somewhere along the way to Chinese standard time But not by me ! Probably been watching too much Team GB and eating too many BBQ spare ribs

For someone on dial up connected at 48Kbps it seems to have slowed down a bit. Will it be because the new version is more complex or will it be my imagination?

Ray,

There is more complexity to the site layout and this may well slow down your dial-up connection... we do have some de-bugging switched on at present that does also have a small overhead.

I wouldn't have expected it to change a great deal to be honest, the number of graphics on the page hasn't really changed much from the old forum, maybe there's a bit more HTML being chucked around but not a huge amount more.

We've got some debugging on at the moment which might be slowing things down a bit.

Thanks for that... you probably won’t tell on broadband but it's noticeable on dial up.

1m:49 for a random page to appear from the unread posts (Peco page 26)

Only 4 seconds to move from this page to the index.

Total 128 KB (245 KB uncompressed)

So it should take ~30s at 4KB if your browser supports gzip encoding, I'm guessing it doesn't since it's taking you ~70s...

I'd suggest installing firefox3 if you haven't already, the Google webaccelerator may or may not help - it's really designed for DSL speeds rather than dial up but might also be worth a try.

For a direct, side by side, comparison: the total page size for the first page of the thread on which glue to use to fix your hood on the old forum:

The actual HTML size is smaller (78KB vs. 97KB) on the new forum than the old, but the CSS (72KB) is a bigger - although:
- the new CSS compresses to about the same size as the old CSS, and
- the CSS should be cacheable by the browser and only needing to be downloaded once which should bring the repeat size for the new forum down to 159KB compressed, or 227KB uncompressed - which is comparable with the old code even taking the 10KB off for cached CSS on the old forum too.

Granted these are still long wait times if you're using a bit of wet string for your internet connection, but them's the breaks...

Initially I thought it was slower but today it seems faster and I'm on dial up as well

Maybe it's time for us to swap our slowband to broadband Ray - I mean think how much better it will be for And obviously for loading all these M100 related pictures

Smilie problem alert

When i click on the `view more smilies` an d a click on a smilie it`s not appearing in my reply, infact the smilie code appears on the same page as the smilies in the top left corner. so have to copy and paste the code to get it to work

I`m on IE7 with Vista


BTW can we have the `Mark forums read` back at the bottom of the page plz
