RS220 visits work

Working at Garrett I see alot of really nice and unussual cars and trucks come throug the doors. Today was a day I won't forget for a awhile as a 1986 Ford RS200 rally car pulled up to our front door. We're used to seeing race cars but not driven up to the office, they're ussually on ot in trailers. Besides how many of you have seemn an RS 200 that's in almost pristine condition. Here are 2 pictures taken off a cell phone before the crowd made it impossible to see. Sorry they aren't too clear and they aren't the best angles but that's all we could get.

They were powered by a BDA engine, all wheel drive, 200 made, rare as hens teeth now and then. They ranged between 390 and 650 HP depending on the stage of tune. This one is a mild 390 HP version. The 650 Hp car was clocked 0-60 in 2.1 seconds! Depending on gearing, diffs and trans, they had a top speed of 110- 206 MPH.

The comedian Tim Allen (DIY sitcom fame etc) has one in his collection in north Hollywood, I remember quoting to do the original 'production' composite work but this eventually was done by the Reliant company (infamous for 3-wheelers?) I believe. It's still a neat looking car that could be a likely candidate for re-manfacture, like the Lancia Stratos?...

used to watch these race at lidden in the Rally Cross. blisteringly fast off the line only the quattros could stay with em. however that metro thing was quite quick as well until it was banned - can't remeber the name, sorry

They make a 4 wheeled version of the Scorpion now - gorgeous looking little machine and still totally mental!

I hear that the early Scorpions were prone to blowing up engines.
They used a BMW bike engine, but because they don't lean like a bike into corners, all the oil would all flow to one side of the sump and the engine would basically run dry.

Does anyone else think that the GTM Libra looks a bit TVRish from the front? Still a bloody mess from the sides though. Kit car makers - you can spot 'em a mile off!

Just had a meeting with our motorsports people and they are helping support an RS200 effort to set a record in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. The entrant is from England.
