Jim Clark remembrance weekend, Duns

Fine sunny but cold weather saw Archie and myself make the trip down to Duns where we visited the Jim Clark museum and tribute to him in the local library. This was followed by a pub lunch and then a thrash round the lovely twisty roads of Berwickshire to Charterhall and Winfield airfields where JC started his racing career.

This was an official Club Lotus event which saw 4 M100's (one guy drove all the way from Norfolk), 3 or 4 Elises, a racing Exige, Elan sprints, Excels, Esprits, 2+2's, Europa, type 22 etc................ - over 20 cars in total.

looks good - I'm glad to see so many people marked the event. I was in Berwick & Edinburgh today (work) and the weather was sunny & warm - what happened that Duns was cold?

Does the medina green (aqua blue? they look the same in photos) belong to the chap from Norfolk? The reg is only two digits different from mine. Never seen that one before.

John - shame you couldn't have popped over for a while. Berwick is only about 10m away from Duns. Will be doing Callander, but only on Sun this year unfortunately although I may get over on Sat evening for some beers and curry

Dico - that aqua blue did indeed belong to the guy from Norfolk. Thought I recognised the number plate from LEC but wasn't sure. He's had the car from new - 14 years and about 37k on the clock from memory. Totally original/unmodified and always serviced at Hethel. He'd never heard of LEC so I duly put on my ambassador's cap and gave him a sticker with the web details. Here's a closer shot

Mines 571, wonder if theres any significance? Would it be registered from the same dealer perhaps, or are they usualy registered at Hethel?
Mine was registered jan-93 so I dont suppose hethel kept hold of them till then?

Loved the blue fluffy cloud sky, red Lotus and yellow field contrast. Poster quality!

Some real nice cars there too. So what's not road legal about the Exige? Was it trailerd in?

Also, is the museum any good? Could be worth a trip over when I'm up that way again.

The police turned a blind eye to the Exige - slicks etc.. and no ground clearance. Wouldn't get over any speed bumps - but then again, neither would Dico's with his cowboy exhaust

Museum well worth the £1:30 entrance - tons of history, photos, cups, medals, videos etc.. Quite nostalgic really. Took me back to when I was a lad playing with my Scalextric set. I was always Jim Clark racing in the BRG Lotus 18 and he usually won !
