Got my NEW elan from clemo

after having been ripped off on the first elan i bought
i have now got a new one from clemo
here are some pictures including 'Lotus the bear' who sits quite happily inbetween the seets in the rear pouch

i am happy with the car 100k miles with full lotus dealer service history
a few stone chips and a bit of hood seal needs sorting but thats about it...
oh and it has a PICO alluminium exhaust and dont they turn heads when the turbo kicks in--what a noise!!! like F1 it must look/sound impressive to civilians on the pavement when it goes flying by...
also have a new private plate for it C10DUS

Same colour as mine. Pacific Blue was never my first choice...until I saw mine and there was something about it which just felt right.

thinking of buying up L10DUS and G10DUS and E10DUS

well i will probably buy L10DUS and put it on the jeep for later
they are all available at DVLA nobody has thought about getting the 'D' instead of ''T'

L10TUS and C10TUS and A10TUS are >£20,000+ according to all the plate websites!!!

so i am wondering what DUS equivalents might fetch when they are all bought?
be interesting to see in a few years

The problem is that it reads Lodus instead of Lotus. If I were you I would just get an M100 prefix plate, you can get M100 DUS for £170.

i'm never ever buying from a dealer again
i have realised now that it is the dealers that buy up all the cheap crash damaged ones
bosche them up and then try and sell them on at full market value hoping that no-one will notice!!

the new disclosure law that came out in february means that they are actually now BREAKING THE LAW!
but still the police dont do anything

when we are all dead in 30 od years
and all the car dealers are in hell
i will fly down to them and when they complain i will say
'oh no? ..this is heaven, this is the way it's supposed to be when u die, its hot because we dont want you to feel cold, etc etc 'LOLOL!!!!

any which way you're screwed

if u buy a 1990/1/2 SE with average 90-110k miles the chances are over a few years its gonna cost £2k for repairs and at some point someone's gonna slash the roof etc etc

if u splash out more money on a 1994/5 S2 with 60k miles it might not cost anything in repairs etc but it will lose £2k market value over a few years

so whatever u do you're fkd and it costs 2k

if only lotus would re-make some new elans ltd edition which wont lose value
i only want an elan cos ive always wanted one (the shape)
i dont like any other car not even the elise or ferrari etc
so we have to put up with this problem

Get the manuals downloaded from here for free then, get yourself down to Halfords to get some tools, and get your hands dirty.
If Paul Watkins can do a complete engine rebuild (from the POV of someone with NO mechanical knowledge), then what's stopping you from doing basic maintenance?
The Elan is possibly the most reliable Lotus ever.
Sure it has it's foibles - it's British made!

At least it's home grown and looks nice, so people are more likely to admire it and think that you're a decent person because you've got good taste.
Just don't tempt fate by parking it in shitty areas.

I challenge you to find a cabrio from the same age and similar purchase price that has held it's value AS WELL as the Elan.
Try BMW for example. See an N reg 3 series cabrio now and it's natural habitat is most likely to be a dodgy council estate, where it can be seen performing handbrake turns down cul-de-sacs with D&B pumping out of it's subwoofers, blacked out windows and flames painted round the wheelarches!

i stripped down and re-built and sprayed/restored my 50cc honda MT5 when i was 16
but i'm not into mechanics and stuff now

if i was, i would also get an Austin Seven open top sports/hill climber
i think it was the first sport/sports car ever built
hill climbing !!!

went on a hill climbing rally once it was really good...a mate of mine has an austin seven hill climber as a hobby
