On the UK car it is on the near side (UK point of view) and LHD cars it is on the off side. Another big difference between clam shells.

On further reflection, I realise that the engine bay fumes weren't coming in through the ventilation system. They still came in when the fan was switched off. So, there must be an air pathway from the underwing area straight into the cabin.

Regrettably I would have to make an announcement that Lucy is now for sale. I've recently moved from the US to Thailand and after lots and lots of talking to a lot of people here, the quote for having Lucy shipped and registered in Thailand would be doubling what the car is worth.
This is indeed a good news for the next owner. He/She would have a chance to own the car I (mostly Marie, LGM) have been taking lots of good care for all these years. A brand new pair of Cobra racing seats have just been installed just before I left the US as I planned to keep the car with me for the longest time. Took her out for few drives and these seats (mostly the installation procedures) totally gave me the connection to the road the level I've never experienced before in an Elan (and I have 2 Elans as of now). The steering, etc have never been sharper, tons of feedback. You know precisely what the car is doing on the road, all the time.
Long story short, please let me know if you are interested. Thank you.
