Looks great, Ekkers! Just curious - where did you (or Marie) source the grommet? It's much closer to the factory original than the one I bought from SJ a few years back.

To help fit the seal for future LECS, try 10% fairy liquid, 90% water

2nd tip is they are much easier to fit if warm and the rubber flexible. Warm day, warm garage or dunk it in hot water for several minutes ... maybe with "10% fairy liquid"

Brilliant tip! I was getting engine fumes inside the car, and started looking for routes to the inlet of the ventilation system. I began by sticking duct tape around the induction pipe as it emerges from the front wing, and that immediately solved the problem. I have now installed the grommet suggested by lotusflasherman, and I now have a proper fix. I might need to drip a little silicone sealant between the pipe and the grommet so that I get a really good seal.
I actually think that this is an important safety fix to avoid breathing engine fumes.

How does engine fumes get in via this route ?
Just bought one of these as noticed mine seems to have shrunk a bit !!

Got mine and fitted it, no water/washing up liquid needed but I guess it would have helped !!
Certainly looks a lot neater.

If you were getting engine fumes into the cockpit, then the connector from the intake tube has probably perished. The Ventilation system is supposed to get it's fresh air from the very front of the clam and that tubing is connected to the system with a foam coupling. When the foam perishes, the ventilation system gets it's air from the area near where the induction pipe passes through the bulkhead.
It is listed here:
http://www.deroure.com/partinfo.asp?MAK ... PBID=62818A picture of where it goes is here:
download/file.php?id=22438&mode=viewThere are many suggestions of ways to replace it, but at £6.21, why struggle to make something else.

Mmm, that is strange, I thought the air intake was on the other side?! (RH side)
Of course my Elan is a LHD so it may be reversed.
EDIT: on second thought, that would make sense since the blower is behind the glovebox.
