They must be wondering what is up with all the Elans coming on their books today!<br><br>Glad to hear you all got some benefit too - though not really my find, I think quite a few other Elaners use them. With regards to track days, some policies specifically exclude them, others just have standard terms about racing/timing etc. I've heard people say that as track days aren't timed you should be covered; I'd await the outcome of a big claim on that basis with interest! You know how insurance companies are.

I insured my Elan through Firebond (08704 440556) as a classic on Saturday.<br><br>It was fully comp with an insured value of £8k, £500 excess and annual mileage of up to 6000 miles. Unfortunately I can't garage it, and I had to declare a stainless exhaust and Hi-Spec brakes.<br><br>I was very pleased with a cost of just £333.50, especially as (although at 36 I'm old enough to know better) this time last year I still had 9 points on my license! Thankfully it's now clean, but I still have to declare them for another couple of years.  :-[<br><br>Bloody unmarked cop cars, it's just not cricket you know!  >:(

Erm, hadn't thought about it yet. I'm still on a high from last weekend's escapades, and thinking about this weekend's B-road blast to Skeggy, before even considering the ones after that. I'll have to drop him a line. Adam too - he only lives about 5 minutes from me. In fact we go via the same route to work around the same time - DAILY convoys could yet become the norm!  ;D

Jimp have u tried classic line, it`s in this thread. They seem to be good on upgrades as long as they are improvement ie brakes dump valves etc, but will start to go up if u increase the performance.

And seeing all the time, effort and money thats gone into rebuilding that one of yours, you want to risk it all on someone not noticing a tampered with ecu.  :o<br><br>I've only asked how much adding a chip would increase the premiums by.  So many other cars are modded in this way, any EFI car is capable of being checked.  :-[<br><br>Funniest thing though, I keep getting asked if it increases performance.  I don't know, but it aids fuel consumption  ;D

Jimp the thing is, if u tell the insurance about a chip and they quote you hi, what u going to do then? Not fit the Chip  ???<br>And i tell u these engineers don`t know sh*t, won`t even know were the ECU is + u can`t tell by just looking at the ECU, it would have to be tested  ;D<br><br>If u do get a quote on a chip, just say it`s a company called Superchip and nothing to do with this forum.<br><br>Top tip, keep a 10mm spanner in u`r clove box.  :P<br>

Monty I agree. <br><br>All I asked was how much "if I were to have it chipped".  No names, makes, models, types etc where discussed.<br><br>I have NO intention of mentioning this forum.<br><br>I was curious.  I have been quoted £250 thru to £800 for std insurance.  I expect the premiums to be higher but if its acceptable then I'm inclined to pay it.  I have a number of other cars & bikes (7 in total now) and couldn't afford the  cost of getting court.  It seems darft to pay £1000s to have it restored, upgraded, what have u, and then skimp on the couple £100 than the insurance want.  I know, more than most, what a ripoff it is, but not as big as them trying everything they can to screw you when you need it most.
