Italian car importer UK Garage have given the S1 Exige a V8 makeover. Coming hot on the heals of the RSW Evo which was launched at this months Autosport show using an S2 Exige or Elise the Italian firms version is called the Extrema and as with the RSW version more or less rebuilds the Exige from the ground up.

UK Garage take a S1 Exige, widen the track and extend the wheelbase by 20cm to allow them to install a longitudinally-mounted V8 engine. They then add a custom bodykit.

Potential customers can choose from several different V8 options, starting with a pair of GM-sourced LS3 V8s developing 420hp and 500hp, respectively, and moving up to a 520hp LS7 and eventually a 638hp supercharged LS9 – the same unit from the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 supercar. In its most powerful guise, the Lotus Extrema will accelerate from 0-60mph in just 2.9 seconds, pass 100mph in a little over 7 seconds and reach a top speed in excess of 200mph and weighs just under 1000kg.

Other engine options include a turbocharged 2.8L GM V6 good for 350hp, which sees the car weigh in at just 850kg. UK Garage offers an even lighter option in the form of the 750kg Superlight version. This model features a compact V8 engine displacing between 2.6 and 3.4L and outputting between 360 and 450hp.

Manual or sequential gearboxes are available. Other features include a Koni suspension kit with adjustable Ohlins as standard and four-pot AP Racing brakes.

A road legal version is available and prices start from €66,000 including Tax.

Gianluca Greguis at UK garage has informed us that the final road car, a LS3 500 BHP version, will be available soon. The name has been added to the pictures as it has only just been confirmed, we expect more pictures and details soon.

1000bhp Chevy LS9 into $600k Lotus Exige

Postby F1 LOTUS » Sun 16.08.2009, 06:46

The new mid-engined machine will be both supercharged and twin-turbocharged. With over 1,000 bhp of power on tap and a curb weight of just 1087kgs, it will boast an astounding power-to-weight ratio. The company responsible says the car will make its international debut at the Geneva motor show next year.

Top speed 262 mph for the 1000 bhp version, and there's a 1200+ bhp version available!

Holy s**t!

Without a lot of bodywork leading to a LOT of downforce, I wouldn't take the Elise/Exige anywhere near 262mph! Maybe 180mph would be pushing it!
