Ignorant Fellow Lotus Owners

Postby Sy V » Thu 19.02.2004, 11:59

Harlow Lotus owners can KMA! :-*

Got the "sneering and looking down nose at a piece of sh1t" treatment twice in the space of 2 hours yesterday.

Went for an interview with Raytheon Systems, on the way there I got ignored (but noticed) by some pleb in a Gold Leaf Elan DHC. Then, on my way home I gave way to a Yellow plus 2 at a round about and the look of disgust as he peered down his nose at the audacity of a Japanese-engine car owner waving to him had to be seen to be believed.

Pompous Tw4t!

Thank goodness the Lotus owners in the Midlands are not like that!

Have to agree with Sy on the Midland Lotus owners, as I've not been snubbed once by anyone, even those Elise boys are happy to wave.

Mind you, don't get me started on some of the Elan owners that frequent this board, the only saving grace of which is that they're not Midlanders ;)

Personaly i find two kind of owners, on the first hand theres the rich boys who have a lotus as a status symbol & can be quite stuck up about it. [smiley=boring.gif], then theres the genuin enthusiasts that have had to work bloody hard for what theve got.....guess which ones wave back ? [smiley=happyclap.gif], but then again dont you find that in a lot of things in life ?
Paul.P

Yeah but you normally find the Plus 2 and the "real" Elan owners are genuine people.
IMVHO, the rich kids normally go for the Elises and and the Esprits.
Just as a laugh, when i was a biker ( many moons ago ), and also ran a plastic pig, all the other little piggies used to wave...... perhaps that was because we were all in the same boat, bottom end of the car market !. Makes me appreciate what ive got now though ! [smiley=crackup.gif]

Dave

TGO 316M - My old 130/5.
Rob will vouch for the fact that I always (regardless of company) refer to S1-4 Elans as "real" Elans...it does (sometimes) evoke the odd retort or two though!

You can't really point your finger on any particular group. I've been blanked by all types. I just have that effect on people. But then again, I've been waved at by all sorts too, all across the range.
It's not the owners of any particular type it's a particular type of owner, whether they be stuck up, unobservant, ill-informed or whatever.
Elise owners probably get the most "well sod you then"s from me but that is only because I see 200 of those for one of any other sort.

Ps. I realised on Monday that on my journies between Wakefield and Oxford, I have seen exactly the same number od Mclaren F1s as I have new Elans!

One. In 4 months.

In the Thames Valley I got fed up with being ignored by Elise drivers whilst I am driving the Elan, so I never wave at them. Rarely they do wave at me but I will wave back (if there's time!).

I did get a thumbs up from the driver of a drop dead gorgeous black V8 Esprit a few weeks back. Made my day!

Elise drivers were not exactly friendly on the London to Brighton run - their photo album has no M100 Elans in it (well, I think you can see the tail lights of one in the background!)

Still, there are just about enough Elaners about to wave at. Keep the faith.

Average Elise driver is a "pot tossing banker". (does that need translated for our american cousins)

4yrs in an Excel in Glasgow and ONE Elise driver waved even though they are as common as a drunk in Sauchiehall street on a saturday night.

First day out in the Elan and an Esprit (rare site up here) was waving vigorously at me so well chuffed. ;D ;D

I do feel that most Elise drivers have no affinity to the marque and will buy the next hot thing whatever that may be. Most of them would probably not recognise any pre-96 Loti if they saw one.

There are many Elise driving Lotus Club members and above is not a dig at them, but as there are probably more Elise now than all other models combined a lot of them are owned by category 1 pot-tossing wankers :o

Look it is not in the [smiley=book2.gif] so they do not know, we need a diplomatic member to post a polite message on the Elise web site that Lotus owners acknowledge each other [smiley=wave.gif] . My vote is on Sy to do the honours and who knows we may just get more [smiley=wave.gif] and smiles in the future [smiley=thumb.gif].

TBH I don't think many Elise drivers recognise the Elan as a Lotus, so I don't blame them for not aknowledging us as fellow Lotus owners.

I have waved at a few Elises and have got very strange 'what me? why are you waving at me?' type looks.

Also, not everyone gets involved with 'clubs' etc and are not generally sociable in that way.

Each to their own. But arrogance or fcukwittedness won't be tolerated!
