If I got a 2nd Elan (so now I'd own 2) I'd just chip it, fit the stainless Euro (no-cats) exhaust I already have, & install the other Wilwood brake kit I already bought from Brian. Yes, I'd get my ass-kicked by "heavy-metal" cars, but that's what the nitro-Elan's job would be.
Color would not be important. I'd buy the best example I found. I'd try not to spend foolishly on it, just improve the weak spots as noted above.
BTW, I ran into the yellow Elan I'd heard about in Atlanta Saturday (yesterday); great color but my God does it show the bug-splatters on the front of the car!!!!!! I had no idea. He needs to put the car up on ramps & get busy. It's not the Bat-Mobile; it's the Bug-Mobile!
Anyway, can't argue with the fuel mileage for the performance these days, can we? Likelihood is fuel prices won't go down (even marginally) for 6 to 12 months.
What about you?
ps - had someone stop and offer to buy my car on the spot yesterday. Here's the kicker: He was driving a brand-new Bentley and when I would not quote a price he offered me $25k! I must really love my car! Only in Atlanta. (I wonder if he thought it was the brand-new Lotus?)
