IIRC next to the battery there is a grounding post with a lead from the battery going to it, and a lot of black earth wires attached to it. Since there is no body to earth through, pretty much everything has to be earth wired back to the battery. Some go through the chassis, some go direct to the earth post.
See the first page of the wiring diagram headed up "Supplies"
So only buy it if you need it. Have a look under the hood tray and removing the battery cover: you may see it! You'll know if it's missing.......you'll have no electrics
