I was posting on the cars for sale area on this forum that I was looking for a nice example red S2 and I was approached by someone who was looking to sell, I drove straight over to have a look and it really is a nice car, you can see it has been cherished, paid £10k which I think was fair.

Keep looking though, I know of another one that may be coming up soon, shall I get the guy to contact you?

Definitely no regrets holding out for a red one although Gazza did nearly tempt me with his odd, he'll call it unique, blue colour one :-)

Cheers,

I read your thread with interest and envy  as I'm in a similar position. Owned an Elan back in the early 90's and now looking to rekindle the Lotus love affair. What is it about these pesky Elans !

I've been in contact with a chap selling a low mileage SE and I'm very very tempted but I keep thinking I will regret not holding out for a red S2 (which my original SE and S2 were). So, I'm too looking for a low mileage red S2 which has preferably only had max. 2 owners and has been very well looked after and doesn't require any work.

I'm sure one will turn up. I'll just keep looking.

Hi All,

So 6 years after putting up this post I was rung at work last Saturday to say that my old car was up for sale on Facebook for £4500, needless to say I couldn't resist and snapped her up, will make a great pairing with my current S2, can't wait to be reacquainted with her after nearly 30 years.

For that price I am not expecting her to be concourse but my plan is to get her back to showroom condition if possible, can anyone recommend any really good workshops out there that understand the M100 and can to a great restoration job?

Cheers,
Paul.

Looking at your location, my first thoughts were Allon White

I have no experience or affiliation with the garage. As I say, it was the 1st thing that came into my head

Other thoughts, although not so close to you include Paul Matty, SW Lotus, SJS and Gerald (Rip's garage of choice) There is also a good guy on the south coast (Coz at Automotive ?? Anyone ???)

Cos is at Sportomotive, now on the outskirts of Bournemouth.

There’s also Lakeside Engineering, a reasonably straightforward trip around the M25.

Thanks Guys, so far Allon WHite has had 2 attempts and Spyder had it also for a few months but after around £3000 spent the issue is no better at all, I think I either need to try Paul Matty next or Gerald, I'm sure it can't be much, the funny thing is that for nearly what it has cost to try and fix this issue I have bought back my old car, crazy.

I'll post some pics when I get her home, struggling to find anyone who is still running a car collection and delivery service at the mo but I have another number to call today so fingers crossed as really keen to get her home to see what condition she is in.

Bit confused by your last post. You've just bought your old car back, but say the issue has still not been resolved despite spending £3000.

Presumably you spent that before selling it? What's the issue anyway?
Or is it one nobody here could help resolve anyway?

John - I read it as this...

Vipers has a red M100 which appears to have a problem that, despite spending >£3k on, has not been resolved

He has just bought back his original car that he owned years ago and wants to smarten it up to showroom standards

But, then again, I could be wrong.

He is talking about his S2 that is a topic on TLF, probably getting his own posts mixed up.
Pointed him this way for assistance with his problem of engine running issues that have yet to be resolved.
I'm sure he can get a lot of advise and help towards sorting it once he starts the discussion.

£3000?!?
Vipers on TLF wrote:It is a pretty straightforward problem really, at first it is a bit lumpy low down the rev range but will rev freely, then after 30 mins or so the engine management light comes on and it won't rev passed 4000 revs…

So has anyone bothered to read the error code?

Giniw suggested Elanscan last year. And I'm sure I mentioned doing the simple paper test clip before

Hi Guys,
Sorry for the confusion above, yes I have an S2 that isn't running it's best and I have just been reunited with my original M100 from 1990.

Here we go, back together again after nearly 30 years apart, I got her delivered to home during the week and I have to say it is probably the best £4000 I have ever spent, I mean in the car world what can you get for £4k that is better than this, she is not perfect but pretty good for a 100,000+ mile car and she runs beautifully.

This will be a keeper now, I'm going to change my red S2 for a mint Norfolk Mustard one if I can find one, but for this one I will restore her over the next couple of years to her former glory, never to be separated again, this really is the car that started my love affair with all things Lotus so great to have her back again.

Hi All,

For a bit of fun I recreated a picture from 30 years ago where we gatecrashed someones drive, nothing had really changed other than the trees had grown a little.

Cheers,
Paul.
