Not the end of the world i know, but as every budget comes around, so the car tax cost increases.
From April this year we will be paying £325 for the 12 months (up from £295).
Not a massive rise, but given the amount of miles many owners actually cover in 12 months its a good example of the unfairness of any increase.

Ah well, only another 7 payments to worry about before it is free (as well as the MOT).

Imagine the state of the roads by then!. Up here they are astoundingly bad, of course they want us out of our cars so no incentive to repair them, I think all the money has been squandered elsewhere anyway.

i totally agree.
part from the fact i dont. because my elan is driven as often as the bugger lets me.... or to be more presise the 3rd parties that i give jobs to allow.
its been off the road for 3 weeks now because of the roof. i shold have listend to clemo 's advice and simply DIY it instead of handing over and paying 200 quid to have to wait for the job to be done....

Well, it was a sunny afternoon in our neck of the woods, so I taxed the car at the old rates - with enough left over for a couple of gallons of super unleaded. And then I spent a pleasant hour or so pootling around Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.

The roads haven’t improved since I SORNed the Lotus in October; in fact the Fosse Way - laid by the Romans in the 1st century AD and shown in the photo - is in far better condition than anything Wiltshire Council can come up with.

Car is looking in great shape Jonathan.
You certainly wouldn't like driving it up here, never ever seen the roads this bad, especially the type of roads we want to be driving our Elans on. Deplorable. Although an independent Scottish DVLA run by that
lot might be a world of even deeper horror for the motorist.

Thanks, Jamie, finally as I wanted it when I bought it 8 years ago. And the seals make a huge difference

Perhaps the poison dwarf is angling for that job now she’s been flung out of Holyrood?

Up through Cirencester a bit on the metalled section. I only crossed the unmade part; Gloucestershire Council are doing roadworks on the A433, “to improve junction safety”, so not easy to get along our bits until the end of March

Looks more Empire Green than BRG in the photo Jonathan. Have you had a respray? Are you Wiltshire's answer to Dapinky?

That's what I thought, looks metallic, must be all the polishing love it gets!, it looks fantastic, the cream leather complements it perfectly.

No, it’s a solid colour - and it hasn’t actually seen any kind of polish since I tucked it away last autumn.
And the paintwork is original to the best of my knowledge.
The camera must be very flattering on this occasion - I wouldn’t dream of competing with “Merlot”

Merlot
is silk red, Mark.
I meant in terms of the coefficient of shininess, rather than the colour code
