Dropped mine off for its service and MOT this morning. Had to clean the contacts for a front sidelight and indicator yesterday when I was doing some checks as it hasn't been used much this year so far. Did the front shocks and springs last year and a rear wheel bearing although my mechanic was adamant the bearing was ok. Fingers crossed

'Merlot' back home after a successful MOT pass and no advisories. Excellent emissions result as well.
CO 0.37%
HC 55 ppm

All ready for the drive to Castle Coombe later this month.

Well, another lovely drive round the West Wales countryside (why use a garage that is too close to home to enjoy the drive out?) to the testing station.....

... everything has changed since my last visit (back in January with the VW).

They now have a new setup installed (which looks pretty much like the old system), except it now sends info directly to VOSA from the emissions and the brake rollers.... and a CCTV system to show the cars in the bay. The system doesn't completely observe the test procedure (but maybe that will happen in the future, who knows), but the computer can tell (if anyone is looking.... or maybe it's like an ANPR system?) which car is being tested.

As such, there is no way for a test to be completed in less than the prescribed time (which was used drinking tea!) to get more cars through the bay in a day. There is no way for the exhaust sniffer to be inserted in a different pipe (well, I suppose it isn't hard to insert a probe up the car on camera, and then insert another probe connected to the equipment into another car which is recording???) - brakes, however, can't be 'got round' in a similar manner.

Still, it isn't a problem to those of us who see road safety as more important than numbers on a piece of paper (brakes are pretty important - emissions not-so-much). I'd rather a car failed if it is a danger to me or anyone else, for the sake of a few hours work.

Anyway, the numbers for my car were okay (not as low as Trevor's but still good for a car with 138K miles on the clock)....

0.63% CO and 91ppm HC

Brakes, I can't remember, but well up to the required minimum (as expected seeing as I did the annual strip, clean & regrease of all 4 corners yesterday). I did notice that the rear steel pipes are looking a bit past their best, and Ray put them down as an advisory, so this afternoon will be spent fitting a set of braided hoses and new solid pipes.

Apart from that, no other issues, so all ready for Castle Combe next week.

I wonder how close our cars are to pass the emission levels for London :? :smt102

The problem is it is Nox that they look at 0.08gm/Km and the MOT does not measure it.

After a complete engine, front suspension and brake rebuild I was expecting one or two teething problems.
Took the car to the MOT on Monday and it passed with no advisories! :D So she's 'back on the road again'.
I'll be driving her like Miss Daisy for the first few hundred miles :(

Well, a picture is worth 1000 words, so that is all you get!

MOT.png

Oh, okay, you can have a few words as well..... After a bit of work to recommission the car, I was pleased to not have a 'snag list' to work through - always possible when so much work has been done in one hit, and you can't always isolate a problem to a specific (recently worked-on) part.

The emissions were low (as expected) as it's running closed loop Everest, brakes all excellent and balanced, and the only point to note is that it feels like I have a square wheel.... so I do have something to investigate, but nowt to worry about.
