Narrow escape

I suppose I should consider ourselves pretty lucky. We are 1 child short for a week, so my wife decided to take the Elan to work on Tuesday. Just on the Harlow M11 junction she was rear-ended by an articulated lorry (which was changing lanes and didn't see her)

The car was spun round, and she was shook up, but the damage (on the face of it) was remarkably light.

Took the car (yesterday) to Hilton Coachworks in Bishops Stortford so we'll see what they say.

Any comments on Hilton?

That was a lucky escape, the Elan a trucks don`t mix. Just glad everyone is ok.
Don`t forget that u have the right to chose which garage does the work on u`r Car. I`d take it to lotus or a lotus specialist.

ps if u need some parts, i`ve got the rear bumper, boot and spoiler but the rear lights have been sold. (BTW there in red)

I'm glad to say we're both unhurt. (Me by virtue of being nowhere near when it happened What's more, when Jo rang me in floods of tears to say she'd been hit by a lorry I never asked how the car was !

Anyway, unless I hear otherwise Hilton Coachworks in Bishops Stortford will get the work. They are an approved Lotus agent and seem to work on Mercedes (Mostly Silver I noticed) and Aston Martin. In fact whilst I was there an Aston Martin works lorry turned up.

Other good news, the lorry insurance co have been on the phone and admitted liability so thats good. Only trouble now, is where do we stand regarding our £500 excess in a no-fault accident. Do we still have to pay?

If they admit liability they're admitting fault, your insurance will reimburse the excess and the full repair bill will go to the insurance company admitting liability.

When my Fiesta was totaly I had to pay the £600 excess to the repairer until blame was decided, and it was later reimbursed by the insurance company. Having to find £600 at the time was a nightmare as I'd only had the car 6 weeks before some fool jumped a red light and totalled the car.

Glad all are fine Rob!.... and well done for not asking about the car, I'd have asked cos im a horses arse when it comes to thinking about those things. Make sure your better half sees a doctor, whiplash and crash related injuries usually take a couple of days to come through, usually due to shock fighting them off, if she wakes up feeling stiff in the morning (mind outta the gutter lads!) get her to the docs and file the personal injury claim. Make sure she gets physio if its advised, if not for the possible payout, do it for her health.

Delighted to hear your wifes ok and agree with Tony about keeping check for delayed symptoms of whiplash and the like. Whilst I'm not a fan of a litigious society a personal injury claim might not be unreasonable in the circumstances. Good effort for not asking about the car, not sure I would have managed that! All the same glad to hear it's repairable, let us know how you get on.
