Anyway, to answer your need for information, I go for a traditional approach of Port & Stilton.

Unfortunately not a fan of anything that is evil zinc based banned by the EU blue stuff .
More of a creamy fan .

i would like to say i would give blue another go , but i think it is really not a nice taste .

The blue's you speak of are they sour ?

Clemo - try some St Agur (blue but very creamy) with a nice claret. Or rioja. Or port.

Alternatively try a Dunsyre blue with a nice aged botyritised Riesling. Or an Eiswein

Cabalie...So utterly brilliant for the money I've just bought 24 bottles for Christmas........not sure what I'll have on Boxing Day though

I think Laithwaites have an offer of £60 off your first order as well. Never had a bad bottle of wine from them and they don't pester you.

Cheese - usually go to the local cheese shop and get a selection based on their recommendation. No idea what I'm eating; too plastered to remember.

In that case it has to be Scrumpy and Cheddar from the English region of Somerset. However its not a combination for an evening of convivial conversation around an open log fire but more a recipe for brawling. When I grew up in Bristol the Blaise Inn was the cider pub of Bristol and there'd always be fights. I think in the end the police asked the landlord to limit the amount of cider he could sell to one person. However if you mix cider and lager you get a "Snakebite" which only makes matters worse. So the idea of a pub brawl quickly followed by unconsciousness and wild dreams from the mature cheddar doesn't really appeal at my age so perhaps I'll stick to the french regions for the wine and cheese.

As this is going slightly off topic, I'll add my bit....

....Andy, many memories of Blaise Inn - some as a customer, some as the bloke who had to sort out the aforementioned pub fights!

....Gini - always got a selection of ciders at home - cans and bottles for shelf-life, but a gallon of Thatchers Cheddar valley doesn't seem to last very long - luckily the factory/farm/brewery/shop is only a few miles away....

.... Oh, and Clemo - they have also produced an Apple Gin which is very nice!

If you ever wonder why Scrumpy comes in the same container as an industrial strength cleaning fluid its because it possesses many of the same properties. We used to call it "Bowel Flush" for reasons which are fairly obvious from the name. I recommend that to keep a Lotus enthusiast in peak condition after the Christmas excesses that a couple of pints of Scrumpy are rinsed through the system to flush out the remnants of the fat and sugar diet prior to returning to the recommended vegetables and fruit. This should ensure trouble free running for many years.

As for wine i am drinking that diablo de casto ...

Not to sure about the floor fillings of scrumpy but buckfast wine is a good alternative .

Just bought a half bottle of Austrian trockenbeerenauslese for under £8 from LIDL. At under £1 a nip its worth having with the Xmas cake or afternoon panettone

I got coned last night down the "drum inn" pub .

Ordered risoto .They claim it had hard Italian cheese . I questioned this as to its taste . Strong parmesan was mentioned .Dish ordered.

EVIL DISH was sent back . They tried to dupe me with blue cheese .
The chief was summonsed to the table , questioned and then admitted that he had substituted the cheese with blue .

This completes and backs up my hatred of blue cheese .

I like blue cheese but the smell alone in a risotto would probably make me hurl. In fact it seems anything cooked with blue cheese in it just tastes like you are eating old fungus. I hope in the spirit of Christmas they didn't charge you and gave you some complimentary drinks. Least they could have done after trying to poison you. Now time to apply your creative writing skills to Trip Adviser.

There are some things that blue cheese work well with - but a lot that they don't! - can't think how a 'chef' would consider a light Italian dish to need blue cheese.
