Glad to hear that things are on the up (even if it's only the body cavities at this stage) :D

Best wishes from us both.

Bloating and really bad indigestion? So, somewhat like what happens when an Englishman eats a Thal curry, then? :)
Here's hoping you've put the worst behind you and there's sunshine ahead. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Right, back in the comfort of my own home. Firstly apologies for not posting piccies of all the nurses that looked after me. To be honest, no stunners but they were simply the best. The nurse that was primarily involved with my case came in on her day off to see me. Thanks Anita :)

The operation took a shade over 3 hours and according to the surgeon was successful in removing the cancer. Once the histology report is back this hopefully will be confirmed. He told me that he was somewhat surprised at the amount of additional tumour that he found over the biopsy results. My cancer staging has gone up from T1c to T2b as a consequence. He also said that surgery was absolutely the correct route as bracytherapy, which was the other treatment considered would have been totally inappropriate given the evidence post op.

The procedure was complicated because my pelvic bone is thicker than normal which made the working area more restrictive. When on the table for this procedure your legs are put in supports and splayed but a lot of the weight is taken in the thighs. As my legs are heavy (huge muscles ) this caused the nerves in my thighs to stretch. The nett result of this was that I lost the use of my legs for around about 36 hours. I tried to stand but my legs just wouldn’t work. This was a set back as standing, walking helps the gas that was introduced for the procedure and the natural bodily gases, to escape. The pain from the build up of these gases was terrible. I felt nauseas and eating and drinking just made the situation worse. Once I was able to move around, with the aid of a zimmer frame, I began to feel a lot better. Ultimately full relief from this problem would only be fully achieved once my bowels had opened, this occurred after day 4!!!

I now have a catheter fitted which “is fun”. This will be removed on 1st December which involves another night in hospital. They need to check that everything is working properly once the catheter is removed over a period of time. I will be seeing the consultant on the 18th December for the histology report which will hopefully confirm the initial examination post op.

I know I’ve thanked you guys before for all your support but I’m going to do it again “THANKS”. A big big kiss and thank you to Dee for coming in everyday and staying for ages by my side despite being over an hours drive away. And last but not least thanks to DaveT who I‘ve been in regular contact with from the start. Good luck Dave with your treatment; new treatments are constantly being developed and I feel sure that a successful cure for this cancer will be announced shortly.

Chris - good to hear from you, and that the news is promising. Keep us posted too.

Keep keeping in touch with Dave as you have, he wont be on here much for a while now that he has moved (to who knows where?).

Also give our regards to Dee - ever the star!
