Over the years I've broken standard SE gear change cables and they went on to be replaced by AB cables and recently BB cables.

Anyway.... I bought a broken one off eBay for a penny the other day (OK...4 pound and a penny, can't forget the P+P) and it's now back to It's original condition in a matter minutes....at no cost to me

I'm still smiling.....soon I'll give the solution which will make you smile if you're in the same situation... It's brilliantly simple... Till then, catch you later.

To be honest, they can call it the Stadium of Shyte if someone is stupid enough to give us £10m a year.

Seeing a video clip from the early 80s of my Dad and Mum with Princess Di on BBC 1 tonight in the documentary "Sir Jimmy Savile : As it happened." :D

Dad's been gone nearly 20 years, Mum's now in her own little world.

Made me cry too :smt022

Sorry for your loss, Dave. Even as the sharp pain fades, we never stop missing those we love. One of these days, you have to share the story of just why your Dad and Mum were hanging with the Princess in the first place.

Sir Jimmy raised the funds for a new spinal unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Dad was a long term tetraplegic patient having broken his back in a cycle race aged 55, Mum was forever by his side, Princess Di was there with Prince Charles to officially open the new unit, and of course the TV cameras were there too.

Sir Jimmy had competed in the round Britain bike race years before (as well as being a wrestler in his youth and a charity fundraising marathon runner) and spent lots of time at Dad's bedside talking about cycling. He always made us welcome whenever we saw him even though he had the ego the size of the Universe and wore the most ridiculous things. He even used to drive Mum back to the relatives sleeping block in his Rolls Royce (he had a penthouse there himself I heard!).

All this makes the 200 odd quid I raised cycling to Brighton last year seem a bit like loose change really. Must go for it properly next year. I might even do it on the racer that Dad built for me as a 14 year old kid.

It is strange how some memories can make you smile and make you cry the same time, especially when outgrowing your youth a little. Age does strange things with the body and mind, but not always necessary bad. I am getting quite fond of it really. That is one special story Dave, thanks for sharing.

I also had an experience that made me smile and cry at the same time, but another magnitude:

I'll be a dad soon for the first time!

:D Going to a little car spares shop I used to use years ago
and finding the same helpful people running it that don't
need the car registration number before they can look up a part
And they easily beat the chain stores on price :-D
