Same reason why a BMW (with one rear light out) in front of me (doing a sedate 110 on the M1) was pulled over and not me. :-D

Mind you, it didn't do my heart any good, realising that the car that drew alongside contained two of our finest boys in blue. I'm sure it was only seconds that they stared at me but it felt a lot longer.

Didn't do your car much good either by the looks of it, nothing wrong with your front brakes though if they can stop the car so fast that it compresses :D

Ailwyn,

i heard the coppers conversation the 1st time thank you and I never asked why the Police was following him

you wrote
The reason they pulled him over was for doing 60 in a 40

so they pulled him for speeding,
and i was only saying that the speedo on the camera didn`t seem accurate  watch when the copper is approaching the 1st roundabout 45mph look more like 30. Another thing watch the guy pull in to the inside line on the dual carriage way right in front of another motorist with little indication. Now thats bad driving!

so have to say again

Monty,

The whole point is that once spotted the guy was getting 3 points, easiest one to prove is speeding.

I'll re-phrase:

Why did the guy get pulled over? Because he was known
For what offence was he prosecuted? Most likely - Driving on a road exceeding the prescribed speed limit (SP30)

The police don't need a reason to pull you over, just the opportunity.

Fortunately most of the police are human beings and adhere to the spirit of the law, but unfortunately there are a minority that think they are the law, if not above the law, these are the ones who'll wait to find any offence that they can use.

Besides, they needed something to do to fill the time before hitting the greasy spoon.

:agree:
Where's the smiley for "pile as much food on the tray as you can and the pay a quid for the lot at the services"?

Just a couple of points here, I would assume that they did NOT prosecute, otherwise the video clip would not have been released with index numbers still visible, secondly, the correct code for speeding in these conditions is SP40!

It may be that as the fine officers already had knowledge of the car and driver, that they were aware of other matters of consideration, He could be a habitual drink driver, uninsured, no VEL, bald tyres or a wanted robber! The camera does not differentiate, just shows what is there, we should not assume the reason for stopping him was just speeding.

(besides which, he may have failed the (non-existant) attitude test last time he was stopped).

Or maybe Old Bill wanted to have a look at the car (I'd never pull anyone in for that reason ;-) )

Ailwyn,

Don`t know what u`r trying to prove, but u`r going complete of what i was questioning and your waffling on:roll:

I know the police don`t need a reason to pull u a car over and i never questioned that.

Don`t care if he was known or not he wasn`t criminal, he was pulled for speeding but as i have to say again i was just questioning the accuracy of the speed on the camera as i don`t think he was really speeding.

Just wonder how many cameras are not calibrated correctly :? personally i think the Copper was just being a Tw*t as had pulled this car over previously.

Memory is not what it used to be, but I don't think so, that's one of the roads I haven't been pulled on... but no doubt you'll keep an eye out for me :-D

Monty, you may as well take it as read that the speed is correct, the camera is treated as an irrefutable witness in law.

Your track video demonstrates that using video footage to estimate speed is very difficult, it doesn't look like your going around there very fast, but I'd bet most of it's above 70.

Anecdotally, I have not heard of anyone trying to contest the recorded speed and my (above average) experience is that the speed reading is generally correct.

Sorry for my ramblings, but I obviously misunderstood "Ailwyn, don't think thats a good enough reason to pull the guy over" :?
