LEC member's WRC success

Many of you will know of Simon 'Kuching' Carrier, Elan owner, motorsport engineer and the designer/builder of a hard top and roll hoops for the M100.

To cut a long story short, Simon is the Chief Designer of the new Toyota Yaris World Rally Car. It finished second on its WRC debut last month and has now gone one better by winning the Rally Sweden.

Brilliant work by one of LEC's own.

Thanks for sharing that with us. I spoke to Simon a couple of years' ago about the hoops, and knew that he was in the motorsport engineering business. A great achievement. Well done to him.

I'm not really surprised as I spent an afternoon with him in Cumbria about 10 years ago while 'we' (but mainly he) fitted one of his hardtops onto my '91 Elan SE. Chatting I found he'd worked for Prodrive in the Subaru WRC era, engineered the WRC Focus for Ford to win the Championship and a lot more interesting stuff that can be found here - Simon's CV

In fact I only became a member on here so I could respond to somebody who was being a 'right garage queen' about Simon's hardtops to the extent that Simon stopped making them. I found his hardtop was an excellent fit and the finish was most satisfactory. Recently transferred it to my '93 SE and it's not such a good fit as the OS A pillar is almost 1cm further back than the NS A pillar - but that happens with cars hand made in 'Narfuk' (Who forgot to use the jig? )
