servicing in scotland only realy has murray in edinburgh and now in glasgow too, but they charge through the nose and dont have the best rep.<br>when faced with a cam belt change, 4x damper swop, hi-spec brake upgade and a hundred other nigally jobs i was advised by severly people that kenneth brown motor engineering ltd in hillington ind est (between paisley and glasgow) was the man to see.<br><br>kenny was the stage mechanic for colin mcrae when he drove for subaru and has been involved in motorsport and rallying all his life and in his well kitted out garage he has worked on some very exotic machinery inc loti.<br>he done a great job on my car and set up the susp and wheel alinment perfectly and refurbed my rear brakes too.<br><br>at £25 an hour he is very reasonable compared with lotus, and i think just as good.<br><br>KENNETH BROWN<br>MOTOR ENGINEERING LTD<br>36 HEPBURN RD<br>BLOCK 108, UNIT 7<br>HILLINGTON IND EST<br>G52 4RT.<br><br><br>murray want £400 odd for a cambelt service, i got this and the above work done for £600 all in. nice ;D.

Car seems better at initial firing !!

Scott.  The 120,000 mile service would be a B+C# service.  The # indicates renew timing belt & fuel filter.<br>The A+C service should have been done at 90,000 miles.

Got the car back last night, superb service and very fair pricing.<br><br>Essentially  a   B+ C  less a few bits n bobs I had done myself recently.   So new oils, incl tranny, PAS etc, fuel filter and car is the dogs dangly bits as ever.    ;D

I was at my friend's in Tomintoul over the w/e for the Highland Games.  <br><br>He has an Elise and gets it serviced by Bob Duncan at Power Systems in Aberdeen (01224-774051) It's near Dyce airport. Maybe John W et al have heard of him or use him already ?? Maybe worth a checkout if you haven't. Bob's labour charges are a very reasonable £25 per hour.<br><br>In Edinburgh I have used a garage in Dalkeith - Andrew at Edinburgh Sports Cars (0131-654-1613)  They are a bit more expensive at £35 - 40 ph but do a good, honest job. They are used to M100's and have a website at www.edinburghsportscars.co.uk<br><br>So, that's a contact for those in the West, North East and East of Scotland.  Any others ??

Just out of interest I phoned Murray Motor Company, the Edinburgh Lotus dealers, the other day and asked for a A and B service prices and the price for Dinol treatment.<br><br>They couldn't give me immediate prices for A and B services and had allegedly never heard of Dinol treatment !!<br><br>When the guy phoned back 15 minutes later he said £400 + VAT for the A service, £500 + VAT for the B service and £120 + VAT for the Dinol treatment !! Sounds like he thought of the first 3 figures that came into his head !!!<br><br>Compare Murray's prices to the current edition of Club Lotus News, where Wilsons of London are charging £249 for the A service and £349 for the B service, both prices including VAT<br><br>Sounds like we're getting a raw deal north of the border ??

Stevo/Scott -  Is Kenny Broon's the place to go for all Elan repairs ?? It's just that I need a rear brake refurb. and also have a turbo problem.  Also a B service and MOT coming up in Oct.  <br>Does he have a place to garage cars for, say a week ?? I'm off to the sun at the end of Sept. and thought I could book the car in and dump it off on the way to the airport.

Mark,<br><br>He's in a modern industrial estate workshop. From memory 2 lifts (or was it 3).  Seems to have space to store a car for a week. He'll do everything from his boys go-kart, building an AC Cobra replica, and completely refurbishing the local MP's AC3000ME which was originally built in the factory next door circa 1980.  He also prepares Prodrive Subaru's.<br><br>Give him a bell.  Easiest option for him is if you supply most of the parts you'll be fitting e.g. Lotus oil filter, fuel filter etc.  He uses Shell Helix oil if thats your posioun or take your own oil.<br><br>I dropped my car off at 9, picked it up at 5, job was all done, some wee jobs that I hadn't asked, and an overall inspection of suspension components etc.....all very professional.    Even uses plastic seat covers which £25 an hr garages in Glasgow dont usually bother with.

Don't know if he does them himself but these days most garages will run your car to their "approved" MOT station around the corner, therby killing 2 burdz wi the wan staine.

Car's just back from the Kenny Broon nursing home in Hillington.  B service, MOT, new front wheel bearings, Goodrige stainless steel hoses and ... best of all.... KB got my turbo working again !!   Sheeeeeeeiiiiiiite - it's much faster - amazing what difference 0.5/0.6 bar of boost makes ??<br><br>One thing though - because the car has spent most of it's days in Aberdeen there is a lot of surface rust on the chassis and the Dinol treatment looks virtually non existent.  Time to roll up the sleeves and get busy with the wire brush !!
