A/C Blower Motor - NEW PART CROSS REFERENCE !!

Recently my heater/a/c blower stopped working. It had previously worked only on the 2,3, and 4 fan settings, with the speed being the same on 3 as on 4. I discovered the 20A fuse blown, so I stuck a new one in and as soon as I turned the fan switch on, bluey! Another fuse bites the dust. I should also note that the blower had always (at least since I've owned the car) been a bit louder than one would like. I've got the car into my mechanic, as this is out of my league, and today he informed me the blower was "locked up." He said he was able to loosen it enough that you can turn it by hand, but it will not work in the car. He also looked it over closely and couldn't find any part numbers on it anywhere.

Does anybody know any cross-reference for the blower motor, or where I can get my hands on a new one without having to take out a second mortgage?

I see that SportsCarWorld in Texas has a used one listed at $270, but I don't know how far to trust a used one, or if that's a decent price.

Alternatively, should I take it to somebody to rebuild it? Is that possible?

He also says I need a new window motor. My passenger window goes a lot slower than the driver's, and although it will always go all the way down, it has to be helped back up, or sometimes can be raised all the way if done a little at a time (ie., raises about 1/4 and stops. lower slightly, then it will go up a bit higher and stop again. lower slightly, then it will go still higher. Repeat until all the way up.)

My impression is that actual failure of the window motor is extremely rare, and it's more likely that some combination of cleaning/re-greasing/adjusting of tracks should do the trick, or that opening the motor and checking the rubber spindle thing as in the write-up on the "repairs" page could fix it.

Any help is appreciated.

I know mortgages are a bit cheaper in USA, but if you could stretch to £10 (TEN English pounds), then Lotus Aftersales are listing them at the moment (4 in stock)

I'm out of town right now, so i don't have the ability to view the manuals section on this computer. I did go to SportsCarWorld's website, and they have (used) a heater assembly, and a blower motor. They show pictures of both items, and they appear to be two completely different things. I could be wrong, though. I saw the heater assemblies on the aftersales list, but I was thinking that's not what I need. Is the blower actually part of that assembly? Looking at the pictures at sportscarworld.com, it doesn't look like it.

I've just checked in the parts book & you may be right. It's a while since I had the parts here to look at & can't remember exactly what was in the big brown box.

Perhaps Algirdas or Michael would be kind enough to see if the bit you need is in their packages .

If it is the one you need, and you can't get it yourself from aftersales, let me know and I'll happily get one and forward it across the pond to you.

Failing that, it may be trying to get a good used one from UK sent over????

(Unless anyone else knows a X-ref, or how to get the motor re-built).

I've been to the parts store tonight. I took my blower motor and we spent about 1 1/2 hours looking through a big parts book and through all the stuff they had on the computer. There's no cross-reference for the Denso part no. on the motor (TD2771 ST-022), and they didn't bother putting a GM number on it. After looking at several they had in stock, none of which looked like ours, we found a possible match in the computer. It is listed for a 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse. The picture looks just like ours. The shape of the mounting plate (which is permanently attached to the motor) appears to be exactly the same, with the 3 mounting holes in exactly the same locations, and the motor is offset (not centered on the plate) in exactly the same way. Even the connector looks the same. They didn't have one in stock, so they had to order it for me. It will be in on Wednesday. When it comes in, I'll take mine down there to get a real-life comparison, including whether the Mitsubishi one has the same 15A, 3350 RPM rating.

I'll be back Wednesday with the news. If it matches up, it'll be useful for the parts cross-reference. By the way, I called Dave Bean to check on the availability and price of a blower motor. He hasn't gotten back to me on the availability, but the price is about 450 USD!!! The Mitsubishi motor will cost me 54 USD if it's a match. (If it doesn't match, they'll just send it back.)

Just got the Mitsubishi blower motor. The wiring connector isn't the same as the original, but that's an easy fix. It's still a two-wire setup. The mounting plate is a perfect match, and the motor is attached in the plate in exactly the same place as the oem. I mounted the hamster wheel to it and measured for clearance. The new motor's shaft puts the wheel slightly farther out from the mounting plate, about 3mm. My admittedly less accurate measurement of the clearance in the opening where the blower goes says there will be, maybe, 1mm clearance. Pretty tight, but if I'm lucky, the wheel won't touch anything. If it does, then making a gasket to provide some clearance should also be an easy fix.

The new motor doesn't say what its specs are (RPM, Amps), so it'll just be a pass/fail test upon installation I suppose.

Does anybody know how to find out what this motor is rated? The cross-references on the box are: ACI 334716, EVERCO M4716, Four Seasons 35370, Murray 209253, AC Delco 15-8913. This motor is Siemens VDO PM3781.

It would have been nice of them to put it on the motor, or at least on the box.

I'll post this in the cross-ref section as well, but it's official, the blower motor for a '91 Mitsubishi Eclipse is a perfect fit (almost).

The electrical connectors are different. You just have to cut the connector from the old blower and splice it onto the new one. The wire colors match, too.

The hamster wheel can be swapped over directly too. It will sit a little higher off the mounting plate than it did on the oem motor, but it still clears sufficiently to turn with no interference.

Great info on this thread. I've ordered the Eclipse fan you recommended. How big a job was removing the center console to access the AC blower unit? I'm a little concerned about removing the steering wheel and airbag.

UPDATE - I had another look at the workshop manual and found that the blower is directly behind the glove box in LHD elan M100s. When I removed the glove box I had full access to the blower motor - result. I then removed the motor and found a nut in the hamster wheel. With the nut removed I now have a quiet fan and fixed a problem I thought would require full center console removal.
