Cam angle unit help!!!!!

Big problem. I went to change the temperature sender and have managed to over tighten the new one and break it in the hole.. I now need to remove the cam angle unit so I can drill out the broken sender.. Can I just simply unbolt the whole cam angle unit and remove it, and then replace afterwards, or do I need to re do the timing on the engine. Is there any write ups on removing and replacing this unit.. Help help help. Thanks and hopefully there's some body out there.

CAS is held on by a single bolt (6mm allen key) you're best checking the timing afterwards but as a temporary measure you can mark both the CAS and mounting point on the head (draw or scribe a line across) and realign afterwards. Hopefully you've just broken off the plastic fitting on the CTS? You need a deep 19mm socket to remove the CTS.

Be extremely careful - CTS is readily available but the thermostat housing is not.

speaking of - might it not be easier to remove the CTS housing and thermostat without removing the CAS? Or is that not possible (too lazy to go down and look) It would also eliminate the possibility of drill dross getting into the coolant passages.

Will be attempting all this over the next week. I have managed to get a new thermostat housing, just incase I've damaged it. And yes I'll be taking the housing off completly and getting on with the repair. Bear in kind I'm fairly a newbie at this home mechanics melarchy.., have managed a few mods and replacements so far, so I'm getting there. These forums are a world of info and help.. Thanks for all your help..

I recently changed my water valve and sensor, the housing cover is held on by two bolts which when removed allowed access to the assembly 'body' which can also be removed after loosening two further bolts. Thus no need to disturb the CAS at all.

Caution though, one of my bolts sheared when I removed the first stage fortunately though it protrudes right through flanges on the body section and once the tension is off could be removed with my fingers
