I am looking into ordering the parts I will need to change my cam belt, pump ect. The question I have is over shipping, it seems that the list I get together in my cart needs shipping from 3 or 4 locations this puts up the shipping cost to nealy as much as the parts. Any one else found this problem ? Im not in a rush so they could get the parts together for me first but this dose not seem to be a option.

I found exactly the same when I ordered my water pump parts last week. There seems to be a steady stream of people buying them from Rockauto, so possibly a group buy might bring down the cost? You can also email Rockauto to see whether it's possible for them to collate the parts - they answered my email query very promptly. I have to say the parts did arrive incredibly quickly. If you could wait until September, another alternative is to see whether any of our American friends have room in their luggage on the way to the 60th Anniversary event at Hethel.

I did a group buy recently - well there were 2 of us anyway. Postage costs and import charges were obviously halved and the final costs were much, much less than buying the parts from SJS.

Why not post a thread and start a group buy as there are a few out there who are currently in the process of buying from RockAuto

I had the same problem as you guys - multiple shipments, to make matters worse Customs also stiffed me for £20 odd import tax - which was nice, and meant in the end, I didn't really save as much as I hoped, bulk buys might be better, but on the other hand, the bigger the package, the more likley C and E are going to look at it.

Rock Auto are good though, I'd still use them again despite this.

However taking all shipping costs and customs charges into account our total prices were only £141:50. If we could have got the same bits from SJS it would have cost us £279 each And that excludes postage !!

So, all in all, the postage and customs charges were a bit hefty but we still got all the bits for less than half the price from SJS

In the Cambelt thread in this topic area I have already posted a need for Cambelt bits.


I think the last time I got a cambelt it was from the States but only cost a few quid. I've now been advised to gett he tension pulles and bits as well.

Waiting for clarification on what's recommended and then I need to order ASAP ideally. Blipi has a hole in her belt... Must fix before September!

Stef - if you've already posted on the cambelt thread you will see the parts and part no's listed (by JohnW I think ??) Anyway here's what I ordered from RockAuto.

I got 2 of everything (except the air con/PAS belt) for me and Clan.

Best to join up with a couple of others and spread the costs of postage and customs charges. Distribute parts to all as and when they arrive. I think there are currently at least 3 people looking for these parts so you could start a group buy

I am also going to buy the items needed to complete a cambelt / waterpump change. I have had a good read through the posts and have hopefully got a correct list to send to them. I will probably get the PAS and Alternator belts from SJs and the only other part is the thermostat (where from?)

Please advise if this looks wrong ... I'm a geek not a mechanic

I happen to have a spare idler which I shall happily pass on to you at the Rockauto cost. That will save you some shipping (assuming you are on the "old world" side of the pond!).
Send me a pm if that is of interest. I shall be at Malvern next Saturday. If you are not in a great rush, I may be able to help with import, avoiding the shipping cost altogether!
