Hi Par - is there any mayo under the filler cap or smell of organics ? Might be worth a sniffer test to check on this. Hope its not the first signs of HGF :?

PS Did you get a warranty from SMS ? If so, it might be worth returning the care to them to check out thoroughly

No sign of any mayo but you are right it might be worth getting a sniffer test carried out to rule it out, I could get my local garage to do a cold pressure test at the same time to confirm if there are any leaks.

I didnt get any third party warranty from SMS, just the legal obligation they have through the sale of goods act.

Drained all the old OAT coolant out and gave the whole system a a good flush and fitted a new thermostat, I had planned to change the fan switch as well but the thread length was too short on the new replacement I had. Also found that the metal connection pipe from the Y shaped hose to the hose that goes to the header tank was pretty clogged up with sludge & corrosion and was probably down to about half the diameter it should be so cleaned it all out.

Added the correct blue anti-freeze and started it up and bled the radiator from behind the headlamp and let it idle for about 5 minutes, the gauge rose to the 1st mark and stayed there. Took the car out for a decent run and the needle stayed rock solid at the 1st mark.

Cooling problem seems to be fixed but the car is booked in for a sniffer test next week just for peace of mind.
