It may be nice if they suggested a value for this. How tight is tight? As long as the proverbial piece of string I guess

Thanks Geoff.
I know you have followed my posts and given helpful advice. I had already looked at the workshop manual engine addendum and noted the 15 ft lb torque advice and borrowed a torque wrench from my neighbour. I also saw a post of a sad cross threader and was careful about that too. CTS fitted it now goes like a dream, massive difference, born out by the engine warning light disappearing and an elanscan clean bill of health. What is the name of the guy who did all the you tube videos, I have found those excellent.
Loads of stuff still to do but all worth it now it runs well.
I am tidying up awful hood seal deterioration (seemingly a problem for all) and have got a couple of local contacts for rubber profilers for after lockdown. Meanwhile I have been playing with black external silicone sealant which matches colour perfectly and using my sculpting skills, water for final smoothing and clingfilm I am extremely happy with the results. If it looks OK in a few weeks I may spread the word.
Best Wishes
Dave

PS - there were no fault codes for the CTS as the indicated temperature was -39 degrees as shown on elanscan and this is within the range for no fault indication.

Temperature is one of the first things I look at when I'm looking at ES data. I have probably diagnosed a dozen failures around the globe without even seeing the car.

Thanks Geoff
Is there a 'perfect' elanscan data set for future comparison?

Hi Dave,
Your elanscan data showed a "CTS Low" error at -39.3 degrees ~60 seconds after engine start (ECM time-out).
The engine light should have come on then and I think the code should have have shown up on a paper-clip test.

Hi Ron
The warning light came on most of the time but the paperclip test just gave me 12. Wasn't until looking at elanscan that it was obvious. Seems fixed now. On to other jobs!
Bound to need more help.
