Oil still leaking

Postby mikeydude » Mon 29.10.2007, 16:08

I know this has probably been posted a hundred times, but the search is not working for me at the moment.

I have replaced the rear cam cover oil seal O ring and the leak has stopped!! great..

But, the CAS is leaking oil at the front, plus it is bloody noisy, it whines and groans.....if you put your hand on the plastic cover it virtualy stops!

Plus I am thinking of changing the cam belt..it's about due..do I need to change the roller etc. or is that OK to leave.

Yo rudeboy!

Idealy you want to change the idler and tensioner bearings whilst changing the cam belt. Some change the water pump at the same time.
There is a list somewere with all part numbers etc, which can be ordered from Rock autos in the states. Maybe you can get the cas from them too?
Only around $100 I believe (get me one please too).

Thanks for the info, I will take a look.

So I take it the cas can't just be serviced?

Someone should be a good sport and collect all these parts and alternative along with the suppliers and put them on a database.

jimbob looked into replacing the roller bearings but gave up and purchased a new one from the states.
And at $100 who can blame him!

There was a thread a while back if I recall correctly, where someone (in Italy?) had discovered a bearing that fitted.

see here

..and I googled this up as well

I have been told if the cambelt is not tensioned correctly this can make the CAS noisy ?

I think I will have a go at replacing the bearing myself, I have done this sort of bearing replacement in the past, so what the hell!!!

Another daft question, but, the cass looks to mate with the cam shaft via some sort of pin assembly..I assume that the posisiton it is re-assembled in is not important. to mate back up with this pin...and that just then engine timing will have to be done?

Looks like you have to make sure the position of the shaft in relation to the wheel is correct. Must make sure I mark it or something

I don't remember the specifics of it, but I replaced my whole CAS and remember that it was obvious and pretty fool-proof for aligning the new one -- I too was preparred to mark it all up, but it just dropped in, and then you set the new base timing and you are done.

Yes, I think it is straightforward as long as you don't take it apart!! I think the wheel needs to be positioned correctly in relation to the cam end
