Vehicle Speed Sensor specs

Does anybody know how to find out the specs for the VSS? Specifically, I need to know what pulse rate it is. My first guess would be 2000ppm, since that is what the Impulse turbo's VSS is, and it seems to be the most common rate on 4 cyl GM cars of the era, but I don't want to guess.

(If you're wondering, I'm installing cruise control to save the cramping in my right leg anytime I'm on the highway for more than 30 minutes, which is about the maximum bearable time at constant throttle. Yes, LHD Elans have a lot less wiggle room for the accelerator leg than RHD models.)
