Starter motor location

Hi,

Does anyone know where the starter motor is located. I am experiencing very heavy battery drain and think that this may be the problem.

I have had the battery and alternator checked and all seems fine, don't know what else it could be?

Sorry to hear you are having problems.

The starter motor is only draning current when you are starting the car (I've just stated the bleeding obvious haven't I?)

Is the battery going flat when it has been standing? Immobilers / alarms / stereo can drain batteries.

I'd eliminate everything else before attempting to find / fix the starter motor

By a very heavy drain what exactly do you mean? Battery flat in 2 days? If you rule out the most likely possibilities maybe a getting a multimeter could help, as suggested in this thread. Enright's post half way down the page summaries what should be done with it.

My problem turned out to be the immobiliser by the way.

Stu - I'd agree with Jim - try all the other obvious things first.

From time to time other people have had this problem and it has also pointed towards the immobiliser draining power from the battery.

Have a look in the boot - it may be that the light remains on when the boot is closed.

And also check that the interior cabin light (behind mirror) isn't on when the doors are closed. You may inadvertantly have had the light switch pulled right out and not noticed ?

Another check you could do is test the battery to see if it is holding charge. Batteries do have a finite lifetime and one of the cells could have broken down. Also check that the alternator is working correctly and providing the necessary charge to the battery.

PS Mine will discharge for no accountable reason in about 2-3 weeks. I bought a battery conditioner (C-Tek) about 3 years ago which keeps the battery in tip top condition - particularly for cold starts on winter mornings. Thouroughly recommended.
