Cooling Fan temperature

Hi,
can anyone tell me at what where on the temperature gauge the needle should get to when the cooling fans should cut in please? Don't want to fry the engine! Thanks.

Around about ¾ scale. It can be scary until you get used to it but the reason for this and the normal operating temperature being at ¼ scale is that the sender and gauge are not matched. Only when you look at the true temperature reported by ElanScan do you see the true picture.

I don't get what is not matched
1/4 = Normal - About 82oC with an 82oC thermostat
3/4 = Fans on - About 110 oC

Seems pretty logical to me!

Sender is Isuzu and gauge is Vauxhall Simon, so 82°C is at less than ¼ scale and very insensitive to temperature changes making it impossible to discern problems such as stuck thermostats - been there, done that, got the t-shirt and added my lineariser (70°C=¼ scale, 90°C=½ scale & 110°C=¾ scale) so that 82°C is just below the midpoint and thermal switch fans on is where it's always been.

Sorry Geoff - maybe I'm being thick!

My standard thermostat (82oC?) keeps the needle at 1/4 on the gauge - 84 oC according to elanscan
My standard fan switch comes on when the needle is at 3/4 - 107 oC according to elanscan

When my thermostat stuck it wouldn't get up to the 1/4 mark.

Making it 70 to 110 would make it less sensitive, wouldn't it?

my élan gauge dam thing the fans come on when the needle is between the H yes all the way up and runs normally about half way up the gauge but temp is fine i am getting used to it now.
