This morning's dry and crisp climate lent itself perfectly to the idea of taking the car out for a post-work shop drive to see how the upgrades felt on a variety of a, b and m roads. The new AVO dampers have added some firmness to the ride while this would be my first proper feel of the HiSpec brakes too having decided to go for those rather than the (recently price increased) Two grand AP set up.

11 miles in and with the new cybox roaring I was feeling pretty happy with the work that's been done. Then the dreaded engine light flashes and at 80mph on the m1 The engine is stuttering more than a politician during question time and then I'm limited to 4000rpm. Having just had the Hall Effect Sensor replaced I'm going to have to go back to the garage to see what the ECU says so all in all a pretty disappointing morning though I suspect it could still be CAS related

Hi Spec brakes are great, changed mine last year, never looked back.. Avo shocks are under the xmas tree, can't wait.. Just in the middle of preparing the car, for the new shocks. Just changing all bushes, sanding down yokes and springs and have sprayed them with a galvanised paint. Looking awesome.. I have noticed that I only have 6 adjustable shims on either side instead of 8, not sure why but will replace with 6 as this is how the car is set up. Hopefully you'll find your solution. Good luck.

ive seen a description of a wategate stuck closed problem that could create some symptons similar to what you experienced, but that would only be possible if you were running 80mph with the turbo on for some time. which to me sounds unlikely.

if your looking for help from the forum i suggest making the topic of the post more explicit to the issue you encontered. however if your decided to just take the car to a garage in that case i suppose theres no need to seek help from the experts.

if your issue is the wastegate stuck close, i can tell from experience that is a relatively simple fix to do at home.

and back on the brakes topic, just out of curiosity where did you buy them and how much?

Bought my front set of hispec discs, pads, 4 pot calipers and braided hoses directly from hi spec. You can also buy them from pnm engineering at the same price, but just re branded with the letters pnm on them.

Yes, I thought the best place to start would be by asking the garage i had paid to fix my car to double check their work before asking anyone on here for further support. It's pretty clear to me there are a number of experts on hand on this forum hence why I registered and I certainly wouldn't ignore that wealth of information

The HiSpec brakes were ordered direct from HiSpec and I found the support and service (from Matthew) to be excellent. I suppose those of us ordering their brake upgrades these days are benefitting from the efforts of those LEC members many years ago to get a HiSpec kit compatible with the Elan
