Fan thermal switch

Hey everyone this is my first day on the sight I own a 1992 lotus elan witch I love , but the fan thermal switch is gone ( the temp sensor that turn on the fan and the circulation pump) does anyone know where to find this in North America , is there a GM one that will work or does anyone know at what temperature it activates at.

Where are you located?

The stock switch turns on at 235 degrees F. The stock thermostat is 195 degrees F.

I have a RD low temp fan switch in my NMY

Back in 2009 it cost $27 for the switch (185/190°), $12.95 for a pigtail and $7 for shipping to the UK. No doubt prices are up a bit these days but well worth it

I just looked on his site and the fan switches are in the close out section, marked down to $12 - at that price everyone can afford to buy two!

I think you're quoting Fiero specs from Dickman as he talks about replacing the 195°F (90°C) 'stat with one of 180°F (82°C) when using his low temperature fan switch: The Elan 'stat should already be 82°C.

From all the ElanScan logs I've seen, our fan switch usually turns on at 105-110°C (220-230°F) and the thermostat opens at 80-85°C (175-185°F).

If you've tested the switch and it's faulty, all well and good. But worth checking the earth lead onto the rad housing first, a poor connection here will stop the fans kicking in as well.

Yeah, SORRY. In the early '90s they drummed it into our heads that all thermostats were going to 195 to better meet emission requirements.
I am amazed Lotus didn't do that too since all it does is get the engine to temp sooner and it improves the heater a bit.

Rock autos list a number of thermal switches for
 ISUZU    1991    IMPULSE    1.6L L4 Turbocharged    Cooling System    Temperature Sender / Sensor.

there are a number of very reasonably priced options for the temperature sensor for the EMU and the temperature gauge .
I don't know if anyone has had any experience with these sensors . are they the correct resistance for the Lotus setup?
Previously fitted a nonstandard temperature gauge sensor which indicated the gauge reading to high rather than to low which was a bit alarming.(ended up cleaning up the contacts and refitting the original).
thy don't seem to provide one for the fan thermal switch .
