The original alternator on my car failed a couple of weeks ago.
Removal is straight forward if you follow the WIKI description.
I ordered a 91 Isuzu Impulse unit listed as 75 amp from Rock Auto after finding its tricky to get parts for my original and I needed it back on the road asap.
The Rockauto unit is (no surprise) larger diameter and would not pass through the gap between the chassis (upper wishbone flitch plate ) and the tooling lug on the engine bock.
I released the drive shaft bracket which helped a bit not enough.
After assessment and cursing I decided about 10mm of the block had to go, after carefully covering up the oily bits I set to with my fast rotating cutting tool and cut a neat corner off the block, but still leaving the hole intact although it will never be needed.
Alternator now passed through the gap with a little persuasion with a small pry bar.
Re assembly was straightforward no other issues encountered.
I am not suggesting that this is a mod for everyone but just informing that it's relatively easy to do.
I will now set about getting my original unit sorted - it needs a slip ring and brush set as it's had a melt down.
