The evidence is my boost gauge sender unit has failed. It is not is an earth problem (earths tested by jumper lead back to battery) and sender earths fully cleaned as per wiki.Boost_gauge_problem wiki
The gauge itself shows full deflection to 1 bar plus when the ignition is switched on. If the green and black (earth) wire at the sender is connected together then the gauge reads 0 bar as it should, if ignition is turned off the needle falls slightly to its full stop. The gauge itself is fine and wired correctly also as per wiki.
A multimeter shows 7.2v between the green sender wire and black sender earth.
There is no circuit across the sender unit even when vacuum is applied, i.e resistance infinite ohms, akin to a blown bulb.
Everything was fine until the clam shell was taken off for painting so lots of wiring was disturbed. A replacement sender has been fitted but no different. Does anybody know what the resistance across the sender unit and voltage across it should be? If it is a duff sender any ideas where a new one/alternative can be sourced?
(The sender unit is also known as the boost pressure transducer, made by VDO part A082M6365F, or more commonly the can thingy with a red rubber boot secured by a round spring, drivers side engine bulkhead).
