CAS side of engine

Postby Dave M » Thu 01.09.2005, 15:35

When someone has a moment, could you please check your engine to see what piece (if any) is mounted to the right side of the thermostat housing on the head. I am concerned about the space below the black, teardrop-shaped lobe plug and to the right of the coolant exit (taped over in this pic). There are two holes, one larger than the other that seem to need some sort of piece covering them. The one to the right (the smaller one) in the picture looks like it is slightly dirty or burnt. Just to the right of the lobe plug and below these two holes are three threaded openings for an aluminium bracket that among other things, supports the intake housing. A coolant hose bracket also bolts into this bracket. I have that bracket, but am wondering what else bolts into this area. I'll keep checking in the manuals to see if I can get a clearer picture or can identify anything else, but if someone can peek into this tight space or has a pic, that would be helpful. Thanks!

See the following link for a pic. Apparently I've reached my max upload quota...this could be a problem.

Dave

there may be an answer in my pictures of the brand new engine I acquired last year...I'll try and find the thread it was in.

No joy.

The engine pics are here:

but there's none of the area in question, I'll take some more this afternoon.

Thanks, Sy! Also if you could please check the VSV on the back of the engine that opens/closes the secondaries? I know which 2 hoses connect to the VSV (one from manifold, one from the actuator), but I did not label which hose goes to which lead on the VSV.

Geez...I wish all the things I'm bolting back onto the engine were as clean as yours! Forgot how nice that looks.

Dave

There sould also be a bracket that comes up and attaches to the intake plume. Not sure if that was what you were looking for but I just had mine off a month or so back so I know the part well.

Apologies. I got whisked away to the in-laws at short notice this weekend. Do you still need engine pics? If so I'll get on to it this evening.

Hi, Sy. I hear you on the weekend! I've ended up away from the car most the weekend as well (holiday weekend here in the States). I did stay up until about 3 AM a few nights ago and put on about all I could however and the engine is close to going back in. If you wouldn't mind one or two pics from the CAS side and one close-up from the alternator side, I'll just make sure I've got everything right. I don't seem to have any bolts left over (at least engine-related  ), so I think I'm good!

Cheers!

Three pictures deliberately overexposed to let you see into the darker areas...

Let me know if you need any of my other engine in situ.
