My boot lid won't stay open by itself. Has anyone else looked into this problem before? I just looked in the parts list and see that there are 2 "torsion bars" that must be what hold the lid open. Is there a fix other than replacement of these parts?

Did you get any joy on rectifying this fella,
Are you aware of B100U0047F Boot hinge assembly £8.51
http://www.lotus-central.com/docs/lotussale20may.pdfI don't know what this part is as I haven't got my manual to hand.

I looked a while ago when the list first came out, hoping it would be the torsion bars so my boot would stay open on its own.....
.....but it wasn't.......
....it's the left hinge

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it
...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

I haven’t tried it but providing everything else is secure and in good order it should be a simple matter of wedging the two torsion bar legs away from the bulkhead.
Start by prising them away and sliding a nut onto the end to see what effect it’s had.

I`ll have to give that a try as ever since i fitted a remote boot release the hood sometimes won`t stay up.

Had a quick fiddle
I`ve replaced the lower bolt with a longer one and used 4 thick large washers to pick up the tention bar, seems to have worked
Car is still in the garage and only had trouble with the boot on a slight incline so i`ll see what happens when i pull the car on to the drive which is a slight slope

I have the same problem - and am thinking of fitting a gas strut - just need to work out how to attach it and how long it needs to be before taking a trip to a scrap yard.

I thought I'd had an original thought, then read this thread. I have put a nut on the end of each torsion bar legs. It is an improvement.
There is some flexing of the torsion bars - i must try an locate them more ridgedly. You can move the nuts up or down to adjust the torque
and it is a 5 minute fix.

Good thinking Colin
Putting a couple of tie wraps around the two torsion bars either side of the boot light to hold them together improves it slightly.
There’s a measureable difference after the two nuts have been slotted on ... In standard form from fully open mine would fall on its own accord after you lowered it down 3”.
With the nuts in place and the tie wraps on it will still hold in position 7” down from fully open.
It still leaves a lot to be desired and would benefit from either a gas strut or two or a spring arrangement pulling the mechanism backwards as the boot opens.
