Roof Latch failure

Postby Coupeboy » Tue 13.05.2008, 13:07

Just noticed after putting the hood up last night that the passenger side latch was distorted. It appears that the pivot pin has either snapped on one side or has drifted across so that the over centre action is only being applied on the other side of the latch. It still holds the hood shut but I'd like to try and fix it. Has anyone had this failure, replaced latches or know anything useful before I accidentally stick my screw driver through the roof!

Yep, I've had it happen a few times.

Take the latch assembly off and you'll see there are 2 metal pins, one of which has probably come adrift.

Fixed this now. Took latches off and found that the 'roll' pins appear too short and easily come adrift one side or the other. Gave them both a gentle tap to centre them and now back in business. It appears that the Lotus philosophy of adding lightness can be taken too far sometimes!

Same here ...

Would be better with new pins around 2¾” long.
