panel alignment

Postby Rich10000 » Mon 13.02.2012, 21:55

Hi All,

First of all I know it's a plastic car that's over 20 years old .... but is there anyway to sort out bumper and boot panel alignment? There is a small gap on eachside of the rear bumper as it curls around the side of the car and my boot lid (LHS of the spoiler) does not sit flush with the rear panel behind the passenger door when the boot is shut. RHS of boot is fine.

Any suggestions gratefully received

Thanks

Richard

I think you'll find there all a bit like that, you've just got to move things about until you get the best fit, so if you take your time you should end up with a piss poor fit
You could always cut through the gel coat and rub the fibre glass back, then re gel coat and spray, but you've really got to know what your doing.

Judging from the fact you have called it a boot lid, I assume you do not have a US model (a location in your profile would be useful :poke: :-D )
The sides of the boot lid are part of the spoiler & these bolt on to the main part of the boot lid itself. The US version differs in this respect.
The (UK) spoiler is attached to the boot lid at each end by 2 bolts & some washers.
If you move the washers to the other side of the panel, it adjusts it.
I can't remember how to get to these bolts, but I do remember it was a quick & easy task.

Does anyone know why Steve has gone off on a tangent about paintwork when the OP never mentioned it?
As it is Steve we need a list: :smt019

It all depends on how bad it is ,if you start messing with it you could possibly make things much worse.I have a couple of small panel misalignments on mine but its only me that notices them and it annoys me no one else notices
