Half cover/shower cape from Clasic Additions, same company that supplies the Wind Breaker.
Would love to post some pictures but due to computer illiteracy/lack of time to learn at present I cannot oblige!

Hi. I have one of those too. I got it from Classic Additions Limited in Chirbury, Montgomery SY15 6BX
Tel number 01938 561717
I ordered it (called a Half Cover) on monday, it arrived tuesday at a cost of £45 (incluing next day delivery). And it works, we had the biggest rain storm in years this morning.
It is easy to work out how to use it (no instructions), the wing mirror bits are easy to fit and the 'right' way round easily follows.
I tried to put a photo here but like many others unless the photo fits 'just like that' you are doomed. Hence no avatar either. (Work in progress!).
It is a bit flimsy but fits well, easy to use (takes seconds to put on/off). Definitely does the job.

Does this one attach with suckers? Or is it the one that loops around the rear of the car?

Edit: Elastic around the back. For £45 I think I may get mine, my half cover with the suckers has seen better days and the elastic ones look more secure.

The elastic at the back is a little too long. It is a nicer fit if you shorten this with a knot.
Can't complain about that. The alternative is a more expensive bespoke item.

Several programs can be used for re-sizing photos. If you have MS Office, then Photo Editor (Office 2000 / XP) or Picture Manager (2003 onwards) will do it. Paint.net is an alternative to paint shop pro. It is free to download so don't be expecting a program as good as PSP. If you have a photobucket account, you can even use that.

If all you want to do is post a pic, you can set up your camera to take the photos in the correct resolution to start with.

:agree: with Nippy it is perhaps a little flimsy compared to a full cover but as my garage is a little way away from the house and my full cover is a pain to keep putting on and off I thought the cape would give that extra protection for summer nights!
Little did I realise that :
A. We would suffer rain worthy of a sub-continental monsoon
2.Hurricane force winds strong enough to blow a dog off a chain
C.So little sun that someone with SAD syndrome would be very sad indeed

Never mind it's better than the alternative as my mum always said

Did it stay on your car and keep the hood dry then? Is there any danger of the elastic rubbing the paint work? My current shower cap has suckers and isn't very good in strong winds.

Try carpet tape on the windows, works a treat and stays in place in strong winds, probably not such a good idea on paintwork but glass it's fine.

I suppose it's down to " horses for courses" really . The fact that the cape is made of a very light material means that it dos'nt require much holding down and as Rip said a knot in the rear elastic helps.
In my situation where I work from home and can keep an eye on it it is perfectly adequate however if your car was in a more exposed/vulnerable situation then something more robust may be better .
My 91SE has the original hood/seals and apart from the usual small rips directly above the B posts is in pretty good order so the cape just gives me enough protection to leave it out overnight as stated.
P.S. Thanks RayD and Rip for the photo advice/offer of help and I will get down to it ASAP !

Hi. The one I have does have the elastic hoops for front and back. I am sure they will not damage the paint or body. The storm it protected my hood from was violent, thunder and all but not high winds. It kept the hood dry and did not fly off. I think it does its job well.
It is not thief proof though, as said it takes seconds to put on and take off. My Lotus is on my drive and should be fine.
Back to the wretched avatar photos, nothing works so far. It might be because mine is an old windows Xp sp2 but.... if I let it, this would drive me nuts!! Calmness here though will try again :banghead: .

XP is fine but I've advanced to SP3!

Try this online resizer - browse to the image you want, choose 150x150, hit the Image Resizer link (it may take a bit of time if you've selected a big image) then save the image to your computer.

Thanks for trying. Yes mine is SP3. I have managed to reduce the size as suggested to 150 by 150 and saved it. However the KB bit says it is 26.7, a little bit bigger than max allowed of 0 - 11 KiB. I know this is the wrong place for this topic but hope it is ok to try and get it sorted.
So I have a saved pic on my pc, that says it is 150 by 150 but 26.7 KB. How do I get the online resizer to drop the 26.7 KB to 11 KiB? I really do appreciate your help, thank you David

I have the classic additions cape and wind defector. Both are good items, from people who are very nice to deal with.

As mentioned, the cape is lightweight and held in place with mirror pockets and elastic lines, front and rear.

I used mine all the time to protect the hood from contamination and it definitely keeps the water out, even in torrential rain.

In strong winds, however, it can lift off the car due to the elastic lines. Eventually this caused the lines to break, so I then tied them to the wheel spokes which completely overcame the problem!

I did discuss alternative fixings with the company, by using non elastic webbing straps, front , middle (which would be a definite improvement) and rear, secured with plastic parachute clips, covered with soft silicon, in case of contact with the paintwork, which are readily available. They said that this would not be a problem and even agreed to a group buy order.

However, the reason why I did not go ahead, is that after about 18 months it started to matt the paintwork, leaving ‘micro scratching’ ring around the whole car, especially at the top of the front and rear wings. I also didn’t like the idea of fine sand and particles blowing under, becoming trapped and acting like a grinding paste between the fabric and rear plastic widow.

I machine polished the fine scratching out, but ultimately this is removing some of the lacquer. Too many times and you are thinning your paintwork.

This is why these days, if I need to leave my car outside for any length of time, I use full bespoke cover with multiple under body straps.

Be warned!

^ Pinched form the Zizi thread.

I have just received mine, seems OK. The delivery took the best part of a week - the guarantee is exempt from "High winds" & "Acts of god"!

Well it looks the same as the Classic Additions one (on a FED) - Ekapol can confirm whether it is or not. I paid £44 inc P&P.
